The thread about caliper paint is what got me thinking about doing it myself. Im trying to find out if there is a write up about taping off the calipers. I want to get the g2 caliper paint & paint myself but want to make sure im taping off the calipers correctly. I have the idea but
are there spots in the wheel well i should pay special attention too ?...or do you guys pretty much tape off the whole wheel well except caliper ?
is there a tape that works better in this situation than others ?

G2/brush on kit... just tape off adjacent pieces you don't want to accidentally cover... pads, rotors, brake lines, bleeder caps, spring clips, etc. You can use newspaper, garbage bags or tin foil as I did below. The foil worked great because you can easily mold it into crevices and it will stay put during the entire process. W/ the G2 kit, pick up at least 1 extra can of brake cleaner and some smaller brushes from a craft store (JoAnns, Michaels, etc.). The brush that comes w/ the G2 kit is only for larger/flat surfaces.

So you are not rushed, only mix up 1/2 of the batch at a time and do one side of the vehicle (multiple coats) at a time. Then mix up the other 1/2 and do the other side. Otherwise you may rush and it will be sloppy all the way around... The paint self levels so don't be overly concerned about small brush strokes showing on first coat. Use the second (or third) coat to focus on getting a nice finish. Wait at least 8hrs (better if you can go 24 or more) to dry before applying any caliper logos/stickers. TIP: use painters tape and or soapy water to properly line up decals too. Allow to dry a few more hours or overnight (less if you don't use soapy water) before spraying 2-3 light coats of hi-temp clear (if so desired) to ensure the decals won't peel.

PS - for the front pads, it might just be easier to pull the retainer pin and spring and even the pads too if you want to ensure a clean job...

He summed it up pretty well, never thought of foil but thats genius. It's a nice sense of accomplishment to finish painting the brake calipers. Don't rush and put on the stickers till next morning, I peeled a bit of paint cuz I was so anxious.
