Sooo, I've decided to change brands of subwoofers.... My gawd the vibrations!
So, I recently got rid of my 2 12w6 JL Audio speakers. Both of them combined was quite loud compared to the single 12in w7 I had before.
I recently pre-ordered two pairs of Sundown Audio SD-12 (D2-ohm flavor). This speaker is a lower-end brand of the famous SA-12 (built mostly for SPL last I checked). MAN was it loud, I had to turn the gain from 80% to 40% and today, I got tired of my head feeling like a bobble head, turned it down to 10%. It's setup in my "beater" box until I make my own DIY fiberglass box, will be one subwoofer on each side. I estimated the wattage to be about 350w (4-ohm setting). The best part about the speaker, IF you ever end up breaking it (they slapped over 1000 watts into a single 10 or 12 with no clipping) it's only $35-75 to replace.
I'll definitely post up the fiberglass setup (and possibly the process if I'm not too lazy), when I finish this summer.
Note: To compare this subwoofer, so far, I feel like it's beaten JL Audio subwoofers in every aspect (that's just my opinion). It's louder, requires less power to get it moving, sound more clear and the box specs are 1cu. ft ported, 0.6 cu. foot MINIMAL requirement. JL Audio's 12w6 alone requires approximately 1.65 or 1.75 (almost double this subwoofer's requirements).
Please Note: this IS my temporary box until summer hits and I have more time, and these are 2-second cell phone snaps before I had to run to work. If anyone's interested in seeing more pictures I'll be more than glad to take pics of the car.

I just can't imagine how much better an Sundown Audio SA-12 can be compared to a w7.

As far as mainstream brands go....JL Audio has got to be up there with the best if not the best. But you give me half of the money that you put into the well known audio brands on the market and I would be able to build you a beastly system. There are woofers by Resonant Engineering, Sundown, Incriminator Audio, FI, Stereo Integrity, DD, DC Audio, Ascendant Audio that would all walk all over JL....but most of these companies don't have the advertisment dollars that JL has so no one knows about them.
To the original poster...nice choice with the Sundown Subs.

it doesn't only bump, @ 40%-80% gain on the amplifier, my front windows (not hte windshield) looked like it wanted to fall apart.
