The bulbs would be considered wear and tear but the ballast should be under the 5yr/50k unless you have an extended warranty than you should be covered is your extended warranty thru Lexus or a third party. I actually had a headlight replaced under warranty cause the afs wasn t working properly

Its a Lexus Warranty. I had the CPO warranty + I bought an extended Lexus warranty through LEXUS that covers me up until 125k miles and this was done at the time of purchase... It just blows my mind that my dealership denied this repair. I never had this type of problem with my BMW warranty and it had WAY more problems that were WAY more costly... I've searched this Message board and found that many dealerships covered the headlight unit.... Why not mine?

Lexus extended warranty does not cover bulbs, If there is literally water in the headlight then its cracked somewhere. Condensation is another story, If there is condensation they should replace the headlight under warranty and maybe as a good will replace the bulb. Worse case scenario get OEM bulbs from ebay for like $80 and have them replace the headlight.

UPDATE: Today I went back to Mcgrath Lexus of Westmont, Il. and spoke to the business manager Michael Connery. He was very nice and he gave me a number to call to dispute my case, I called and they gave me the "run around"...So I contacted Michael and told him what happened and he asked me who helped me the day I took my car in for service, I gave him the name and he contacted him personally by phone to try to sway him into helping me out (All of this took place while I was in the dealership waiting). After this occurred I went to the service dept. to talk to the gentleman who helped me out, He told me he talked to Michael and basically told me to wait until Lexus Contacted me about the initial claim that I made 3 days ago...and If I didn't hear back from them today then call them Tomorrow... I never felt so helpless as Car owner in my life!.. run around after run around after run around... Its like they KNOW they can fix it under warranty...they just don't want to. None of the staff gave me a solid reason why they couldn't fix it under my warranty.
Mr. Connery was the only one who actually made me feel like a Valued Costumer... "You paid good money for that warranty"..."We value you as a costumer, I wouldn't want you to have a bad experience with us, then go and buy a Mercedes"... I mean it might not have been genuine, But ill give him the benefit of the doubt because he made everyone else seem like Mr./Mrs. Scrooge on Christmas.
...I'll Keep you guys updated...Pray for me and my car, Lol

Sounds like all you can do at this point is to change the bulb yourself and wait to hear what Lexus has to say. All of the back and forth sounds like it is more headache than it is worth at this point. Now if you change the bulb and it burns or goes out again, then that's another story.
Or if you are positive, and it sounds like you are, that the light assembly itself has a leak, then I think Lexus needs to stand behing their warranty. Just good business!

UPDATE: After a week and a half, I finally managed to get Lexus to replace my drivers side headlight unit and bulb for free. I even got them to pay for 50% of the passenger bulb... Persistence pays off folks. Try it!

Good news for you and your car, however that dealer sounds horrible. I got my bulb replaced on my CPO via goodwill, have gotten about $1500 worth of service under warranty, with no hassle.

KSOGS3, I am glad it all worked out for you.
Here's a question for you and anyone else here.I washed the car the other day,and noticed that the driver side light had condensation in it.A friend who details our car said that the entire headlight assembly needs to be replaced because you cannot just replace the bulb.
After reading your thread,I see that you can replace the bulb alone. My question is,what is allowing condensation to build up in the headlight? A bad seal? Cracked headlight assembly?
For the record, wife called Lexus dealership today and they said it was not covered. We have an extended warranty thru Lexus. Looks like I may have to fight this, but, can anyone answer the above questions and/or suggest advice?
