it controls some functions because i do get MP3 capability from it.

Wouldnt that almost reconfirm binary jay's comment then? I would think that the CD player portion would be the deciding factor on whether or not the system was mp3 compatible or not.

the head unit controlling mp3 playback that's straight forward, the discs are in there so decoding done there. but the information display, i would tend to think it's about the upper unit (multi-display unit)

Between a display/HU out of an '07-'09, ML+, a new larger iPod Touch, and possible a Gen 5 Nav disc, this thread is going to cost me $2k+. :-)

Great finding!
I was also looking to swap the GEN4 to GEN5.
However, I was told that the NAV CPU is different so is the connection. Is this true?

Just got the 08 gs350 screen and CPU it has 2 different plus one large blue one and one 16 pin in the center. I need a wiring diagram to do some checking. It does boot up and then says audio not connected
If anyone has pinouts or diagrams I need them! One for 06 and one for 08
TIA
