Default Brake Pads and Shims

Is their a difference between the shim kit and fitting kit at Sewell Parts? Will I need both of these kits when I change my pads? If I buy my brake pads elsewhere do I still need to buy the shim pads?

the shim kit goes on the back of the actual brake pads. the fitting kit goes on the top and bottom of the space where the pads slide into the caliper. the fitting kit pieces make contact with the little tabs at the ends of the pads. they should already be on the brakes so you can just reuse them.

You do not need to buy new shims, unless they are damaged. Just clean them up, apply some caliper grease and reinstall.

Keep in mind too that most aftermarket pads (Duralast, Akebono, Hawk) come with new shims already attached.
