Default Need Pricing Help, Am I being unreasonable?

Went to Longo Lexus today in Southern California, sticker price on a 2011 Lexus GS350 RWD with everything EXCEPT for Mark Levinson, Park Assist, Rear Sunshade for $50536, dealer wanted 52K OTD with tax, licensing, etc. Talked them down to 49,925 OTD...BUT what I was really looking for was in the range of 45-46k OTD. He told me i would not find this price anywhere and told me to take my business elsewhere because there's no way he would sell that car to me. He said the car was already 1200 below invoice (44850 before tax). Was I being unreasonable? Thanks.

yes, you are being unreasonable.

46k otd is outrageous. you're talking $9000 off msrp. Considering the extremely low demand for this car, you'd think that would be reasonable. But no dealer will deal on that.

go for 44000-44250 + TTL. that's about 13% off. 850 shy of what they offered.

But buy directly from internet sales manager.

"1200 below invoice" is bullcrap. that's not their true invoice price. Based on his words, their "invoice" would be around 92% of msrp.
true invoice is around 85-87% of msrp. I know. I've seen internal invoice documents directly from toyota HQ.

yes, i would find out the exact invoice. whoever said 1200 below invoice, tell him to show you paper and you will believe, see what he says. i think invoice on this car (no ML), invoice should be around 43-44? i remember my car (loaded with ml and other stuff) had invoice of 44 and change. i know prices have gone up. i would do maybe invoice + 300 + ttl

46k otd that's quite impossible i say. that means 42k on the car, now that's really quite a bit below invoice

thanks guys for the replies, the only reason i even came up with the 45-46k numbers was because of the thread i saw on here on how much people paid for their third gen, people were getting AWD models for 49k but I guess times have changed

There are no promotions on this car, so a dealer can't viably sell below invoice unless they have an interest related hold-back.

On the East coast, if you get $400 over invoice - that would be a good deal. In Socal you may $1000 below invoice if you shop around.

I went on ZAG and it seems invoice for the car you describe is 45,059. It seems the Amex.ZAG.com price is $44,059. Anything better than that is a good deal. Otherwise just buy through ZAG.

Yeah you are being unreasonable.

45-46k before OTD would be good...

I had my '07 in Thurs. for a radio replacement (warranty - whew!), and discussed trading for an '11. One was available in the region with the color I wanted, however it had nav, which I didn't want. I was told all GS's are now coming with nav.
One item I did want was the rear sunshade (it hit 100 deg. in Phx. on Fri.), but was told that option was now part of the M.L.package, at $2k+.
End of story - went to the finance rep and got literature on the extended warranty purchase, which I now am tentatively planning to pursue in July, when the current warranty expires.

Do you guys think prices will go up due to what's happening in Japan. He's telling me that the price that was given to me is only good for a few days because "things" are changing every day. I was hoping to purchase the car in July but if I am going to have to purchase the car at MSRP then, then I might as well buy it now. What do you guys think?

Is this your first time purchasing a new car? No way should one pay MSRP unless if it is a limited edition exotic.

And what's happening in Japan doesn't justify paying MSRP. I'd just hold off the purchase until availability goes back up, buy the car for less, then donate the rest. Now that really helps.

Longo does not give good deals but they do have lots of cars. So you can get the car you want you. I went to longo they tried to rip me a new one. Keys in van nuys gave me a better deal (I did buy a cpo gs tho not a new one) there are lots of Lexus dealer in socal within 50 miles of each other shop around that's a big purchase

longo gave me the best deal when i bought mine years ago. I dealt with the managers. not the salesmen.

best thing about socal is that you can bounce offers off each of the 1000000 dealers here. you don't even have to drive there. Make the deal over the phone first.
