Yes not good for paint. Especially if you scrape it off instead of melting it off.

Make sure you have a good wax for this time of year. I would suggest Swissvax Shield. It is very low friction so it will help.

Ice or snow doesn't hurt your paint unless you're scraping it off for some reason, then it's the scraper doing the deed. Just clear your glass.

At least your username saves you from your ignorant solution.

I already have my 74vette in storage so unfortunately this IS my beater right now.

Too bad I have to leave my car outside while at work.

Actually, when you are driving in winter you get a lot of grime on the car (sand, dirt, salt). Then when it snows on top of the grime you have a problem. If you slide the snow of the car, you are scraping the paint with the grime, so it is effectively wet sanding your car. You will get abrasions. Noticeable on a black car in particular.

I fully agree this is why I have only owned 1 black car and have vowed to never again because I am extremely **** about the swirls and small visible surface scratches. Anything with a pearl will disguise the abrasions and IMO white pearl is the best at hiding the surface scratches. Black does look amazing when its all waxed up though. Just too much maintenance for me.

Fortunately I live .25 mile from the car wash which offers $25 month unlimited car washes. I am always there right before snow/ice storms so I can clean the snow/ice off my car with peace of mind. My GS is GFM so I don't have to worry too much about surface marks. That and my beater is my wife's Outlook.

Yeah that was a smart call. Keeping my car pristine is pretty expensive. I have to use a very high end detailer for the weekly washes because even the local hand car wash places will scratch it.
