GS - 3rd Gen (2006-2011) Discussion about the 2006+ model GS300, GS350, GS430, GS450H and GS460

Would you do a swap on your GS for a CT200h?

I would never consider it. My 450h is a lot of fun to drive. I would never consider ANY car that takes longer than 6 seconds to get to 60mph, let alone one that takes 10 seconds!

And the two cars in completely different categories. People, would look really funny at me if I replaced my executive sports sedan with whatever 200h is supposed to be. If I wanted to switch to a car with better mileage, the 200h will be at the bottom of my list. Chevy Volt would be at the top at this particular moment.

There are some things Lexus does which just don't make sense to me.

When the HS250h came out, I said Lexus should have just made a ES300h instead. The ES is a best selling luxury car and a hybrid version would draw a lot of demand. Instead they launched a car which looked like a spruced up Toyota Avensis and it flopped.

With the CT200h, I think the idea of having a well made product that competes with the Audi A3 is a great idea. But they need the car to have aspirational appeal beyond the tree huggers of the pacific north-west and SFO. It wouldn't have been hard for them to offer a CT250 and a CT350. The CT350 would have delivered legendary performance and would have made the car cool. I predict another flop here due to lack of powertrain options and the lack of a souped up variant which can win comparos.

good points...i figured my GS resale would plateau at some point and hold its value...

As for the gas, my GS is getting about 19 - 22 mpg, I'd figure saving the money on gas would be nice. I got a project RX-7 that guzzles gas, so was thinking about alternatives and staying in the Lexus family.

And getting the $500 giftcard is nice from Lexus, maybe they will offer another one and another one...

I would not take that trade if it was a new CT every week, with a full tank of.... whatever.

The correct metaphor is a Prius with a Lexus logo. And hey, I would drive a Prius so why not this. :P

How much less would they have to be pricing these things to avoid all of this hating? Between the CT200h and the HS250h, the CT looks like a much more attractive and unique package to me. The HS doesn't even look like it belongs in the lineup.

I agree that they should have released a hybrid ES in the form of an ES250h instead. They only need one hybrid only model, not two, they should have really put the 250h powertrain into the CT body and got rid of the HS altogether and admitted to themselves that it was a bad idea.

point is the money you would "save" on gas would be much cheaper than the 5k upgrade you'll probably spend for downgrading to a smaller car. doesnt make sense to me. stick with the gs

Wow a lot of hybrid hate in here. The CT drives nothing like a Prius. NOTHING, its not even close. The CT is smaller than the Prius. They share the same engine but the CT platform is basically all new.

It is a car to help double Lexus sales in Europe. Its shocking we got it here since small hatches don't usually do well. With gas continuing to climb the CT might arrive with good timing.

I think you misread the posts. The question was about the choice between two hybrids: GS450h and CT200h.

Never.

I would rather have a regular Prius over a overpriced glorified "Bougis Prius".
