Two different cars!
My Lexus is my daily driver, grocery getter, errand runner...no problems, no drama, kinda bland but in a cool way (even after doing the exhaust and F-Sport upgrades). Good power, reliable car but annoying frequent maintenance intervals and the dealer nickle/dimes you anytime he touches the car.

My 5 series is the go to car for any distance or spirited driving...lot of feel, control, and connection with the car...steering and handling feel, feedback, plus articulated sport seats support and hold you in place. So, the car handles and sounds (even without aftermarket upgrades) Yes, maintenance is paid for, including brakes/rotors, up to 50K! I've had 4 other BMWs (5 series as well) and yes...after the warranty and free maintenance is up, it'll start costing you BUT not any more/less that any other luxury brand sedan in terms of frequency and cost.

Truth be told, if you take out the $10-12K price difference at MSRP, the 5 series, at least for me, is less expensive to own on a day to day basis.

So, I live and love two different cars...each for their own attributes. But it fits my split personality just right. Not for everyone but something for everyone.
So how exactly do you make a financial comparison by taking out the $10-12K price difference

I would like to know the answer to that myself

The interior of the BMW is awesome.

However, the reliability of the GS is second to none. In fact the exterior of the BMW looks great as well. This just underlines the fact that the GS is in need of a redesign.

Still its Lexus for my money due to reliability and the fact that I will never buy a new car.

Maybe he is talking about the far greater discounting at BMW. Although I think this narrows the gap by maybe $6k not $12k.

Congrats on the new car! I'm sure your gonna love the experience. Hopefully you don't run into any trouble with the HPFP.

Well yes...at least in the So Cal area BMW's are well discounted. And no...I can't really do a true cost of ownership by negating the MSRP that JJSCSIC commented above but I was just trying to deflect some of the comments of "high maintenance cost". It does cost zero for all scheduled maintenance as well as wear out items including brakes and rotors.

I will concede that the Lexus is a better value, has more nice features included and is generally more reliable. I apologize for my math reconciliation.

Still, congrats and farewell to the new BMW 535 owner!

I'm not convinced that BMW's are discounted more than Lexus. Mine was about $5,000 off list. I haven't shopped BMW's in a little while, but I've never seen a 5 series discounted any more than that. I'm not counting overseas delivery, or the outgoing models.

As to maintenance, that is nice, but mine has free maintenance for a while - I think the first four. No- not as good as BMW's plan, but I never spend much on maintenance for any of my cars anyways (I do all the basic stuff myself).

I'm not knocking BMW's in any way btw. I like them a lot. They are just a little beyond what I want to spend. I have a very close friend who has owned quite a few and I always enjoy driving them.

I had a 325,01 525,04 525. Once the warranty expires you are looking frequent bills.
