Anyone converted Non-Navi to OEM Navi successfully?
Has anyone successfully converted a non-navi GS to a Navi GS with all the correct parts? I have an 06 GS w/o navi and i want to get all the necessary parts to turn my car into one with navi and the factory ML dvd player.. anyone attempt this yet?
Edit: Ok so i got the stuff in the mail and as i was going thru it, i was trying to figure out what this piece is and where would it go in the car? It has like 4 switches on it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks..

You can probably get the nav head unit for about $1000, then you will need DVD slot for nav, and wires. Its a huge and expensive mod that a lot of people wouldn't do. I would suggest an ipad or do a search to connect you're ipod through regular screen and you can use nav from it.

If you want the ML DVD changer and nav unit, that's probably impossible since the speaker count is different (10 vs 14).
As others have said, not worth the money and hassle. Might as well spend a couple thousand more and get a GS with factory nav. I'm selling mine.

I really want to do this conversion because i want to be able to play dvds in the car without having to fabricate a custom dash and requiring to relocate the oem screen to the glovebox for climate controls.
i know the ipod connectivity was an option but to play dvd i would require a separate dvd player somewhere else in the car. My big thing was the 6 DVD changer that came with the ML stereo was what really got me into all this.
I will keep u guys posted on this "little" project of mine..
can you please get the a link for this mod? thanks ahead!

I play DVDs in my car, I have a half din DVD player in the glove box. I have a non nav unit. I purchased a module called NAV tool which plugs into the factory head unit and allows a audio/video input into it. Run a power source and some RCA wires, ground out the yellow parking brake wire and if you have Nav you have to splice your vss wire if your non nav you just cut it and cap it off and you can watch DVDs on your factory screen while in motion. Great for passengers!
