Winter tire questions
Question:
I was about to order some winter tires...ya ya a little late I know. My questions is this if i buy a set of those plan black steele rims in a 16inch size will they clear my brakes?... I have already sent the tirerack guys a pm but I would like to order the tires tonight.
The tires I am about to order are..
215/60R16 General Altimax Arctic Blackwall
for 2006 Lexus GS300 AWD

I have 215/60/16s Michelin X-Ice Xi2 on plain black Toyota steel wheels on my AWD right now. They will fit just fine on your car. Also, I can confirm the toyota steelies (don't know about generic ones) mount TPMS fine as well.

if your interested in a set of 18" GSpyder rims with Michelin Alpina III pm me. I used them for maybe 500 miles, they have TPMS, and are mounted. I have no use for them now.
as for 16" I didnt think they would clear the BBK on our car. I thought 17" was the smallest we could go??

nah it wont mess anything up...just that stupid light. My first set of winter rims didnt have them but every night I pulled into my garage they synced back up so it cleared the light.
personally I think its worth the $$ to have them just in case. You can get 4 of them for under 150 shipped to your house.

Ebay. Do a search for Toyota TPMS, or Lexus TPMS.
I got a set of 4 for around $65 shipped. I've bought two sets on eBay. The first set I got from a seller that no longer offers them, the second set I got from oewheelsdirect.
Brake calipers are a bit bigger on 07+ and 16s won't fit, the 16s just barely fit over the 06 calipers, but they do. 16" tires are a hell of a lot cheaper than the larger sizes, and 16 inch steel rims are only 6.5" wide which is a nice bonus for fitting the skinnier tires on and cutting through the winter garbage.

yes eBay is a great place for the TPMS. I started to buy direct from one of the sellers from changing rims to many times. But if you can find them shipped for $150 or less (brand new) its a good deal. My Lexus dealers sets them up for free for me so for the time and money I think its worth it
