Default Reusing wiper 'housing'?

Hey all,

I just bought some Rain-X Latitude replacement wiper blades for my 2008 GS 450H.

The OEM blades have this very cool plastic shell or housing. Is there any way to get a replacement blade insert so I could reuse these? It looks like the whole thing is integrated into the design. The Rain-X's work great, they just don't look as nice as the OEM.

Anyone know how much the OEM replacements are?

Thanks

Call your dealer's parts department for the price for wiper inserts.

I never noticed anything cool or special about my wipers... they're wipers.

Thanks GS350Lexus.

@ BinaryJay: Really? I think the OEM wipers look much better than the replacements I got. My 450H has a plastic shell that basically hides the wiper covering both passenger and driver blades. The RainX Latitudes I put on don't. They just look bare.

I guess I'll use the replacement blades until they crap out.

What do your wipers look like, I can't find any pictures online. I guess my whole blade assemblies got replaced at some point and they never gave the old assemblies back when the car was traded in. I never gave it a second thought since the wipers seemed to work great.

I never thought about it until now, but now I'm pissed... I want cool looking blades too. I assumed they were just the regular lexus blades and I even bought a bunch replacement inserts for them a while ago. :| I bet these plastic blade covers are not cheap either.

Anybody not using theirs want to sell?

Is this picture accurate at all? It looks the same from 2006 300 all the way to 2010 450h.

I hate how Carson's fiche doesn't give me the part numbers to look up elsewhere.

BinaryJay,

Yeah, I figured someone had replaced your stock ones. I couldn't see pictures in the link you sent. I took a picture of mine but I'm not sure how to attach them here. But yes, they do look better than a replacement blade, in my opinion.

I bit this bullet too, along with the B-Pillar trim, and just put the nice Lexus wiper blades on the car to replace the no-name ones the previous owner replaced them with previously probably because they didn't know any better that they could replace just the insert.

Apparently they were redesigned at some point, so I actually ordered the ones that go on the 08+. Not sure what the difference is between the ones that came on the earlier models but these look a lot slicker than the plain metal frame ones that I had on before. I agree, these look a hell of a lot nicer.

I was going to wait until after the winter killed the existing blades but I couldn't just sit on them for 6 months to save myself the cost of the inserts (around $10). I actually have two sets of inserts ready, I originally ordered inserts before I realized that I didn't even have the lexus blades... and ordered another set with the blades because I wasn't sure that the blades would come with the rubber (but they do).

Advance Auto part have the refill for $7 but I find it's cheaper to buy a whole blade when there is a deal... like $5.

I still keep the OEM.. I'll change the blade if I feel like it.

I think he's talking about aftermarket entire blades, not just inserts. Things like rain-x wipers, etc. where you replace the whole thing. They're often super cheap, though often not very good.

I've tried a number of after-market wipers in the past, and they all suck compared to the OEM replacement inserts. I just purchased mine from a Toyota dealership for $6 each. They even put it in for me for free.

The factory blades are made aerodynamic much like a spoiler, alot of newer cars are coming this way to avoid wiper lift at higher speeds.
