I have my DRL turned off and HID kit installed in high beams. The HIDs take up to 10 seconds to "warm-up" before they fully come on, it's kind of annoying.

I am thinking about replacing the HID kit with either 85W or 100W HALOGEN BULBS (not HID). Does anybody have those? Are they safe in terms of overheating/melting wires etc? Will I have to buy heavy-duty wiring harness? I am talking true 100 watts bulb, not the one that is "65W, but performs like 100W".

I've been running 85 watts bulb on my Mercedes for the last 10 years, never had any problems with them.

Is there an 85Watt HID? I only know it's 35Watt or 55Watt.

I did the same thing with my DRL and highs. Mine come on more or less immediately. Have yours always taken that long to come on?

^ he said warm up time. Not that it didn't turn ON. And I think HID takes about 3mins before switching to normal mode.

I have regular High beam Halogen and it does turn on full blast right away.

I'm tempted to go 55Watt low beam though. OEM seem a bit too dim.

I think the headlights are dim because the bulb is set so far back and the poor optics. I think if you replace the optics, the beam should become brighter.

That said, when I'm driving alongside other cars at night on the interstate, I have noticed my car is still projecting more light than other cars. I attribute that to the HID fogs which make a huge difference. If you don't have HID fogs - try that first. If you're running OEM philips low beams, then I would suggest a 5K HID fog.

I agree HIDs not great for hi-beam because of warm up time. I think there is some risk in 100K bulbs. They do generate a lot of heat. In my case I'm pretty sure they would melt the LED running lights if used for prolonged periods of time. If you don't have LEDs it may be okay, but there's still risk of damage to the surrounding wiring.

No, I don't have LEDs, I have little PIAA bulbs there that give nice color that matches OEM HIDs in low beams.

I would love to hear from somebody who had any experience with REGULAR HALOGEN 85W or 100W BULBS in their high beams. Anybody?

I have a huge spot light that has 115W H3 halogen. It gets super hot when full blast. Even the glass in front of the light was hot, burn to the touch. The reflector inside is metal. Also on a full charge I can only run the light for about 15mins. So, I don't think it have enough time to get to it's peak heat.

I don't think the headlight housing of our car can withstand the heat from the bulb and light. Wiring won't be an issue cause U can get relay wires that usually made for 55Watt HID and that get supply power directly from the battery and using the light wire only as on/off signal.

If U do try, I'm curious to know the real result.

THAT WILL BE ONE OF MISTAKE YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE !!!

Everything would be fine till it blows up in your face, in this case housing of the highbeam !!!

One of my highbeam looked like a BBQ pit, scratch, smoked, and burnt...

If you are the chosen one, the membership would be $1,600+ (just to replace "A" headlight) !!!

I dunno i see fine with stock high beams, want a melting housing go for 100 watt thats all i can really say. On top if it doesnt melt, the plastic will start changing colors from a that heat.

If I remembered correctly, it was either 50W or 60W Xtreme White from PIAA.

The chance of melting the highbeam housing is extremely high with 100W, unless you are really lucky!!!

That's very odd, because the OEM bulbs are 65W.
