Specifically a 245-20 tire.
I'm about to order new tires for my new wheels.
I've had 2 dealers tell me it's not safe to daily drive with this size.
One problem mentioned was load rating. How can that be. Load rating for that sidewall is approx 1300 which should be fine. The GS weighs around 4600 lbs. That's 2600 combined front load rating for half the car. WHy would that be an issue.
I've seen Bentley's on 245-30-22 fronts and that car weighs 6000 lbs.
What size fronts are the LS460's using and those cars are heavier.

You guys with 245-30-20 tires....are you having any issues?

first of all i think tires are brand/model specific. i guess you are referring to the falken tires, i don't know much about it

i have toyo t1r in that size and i haven't had any issues. i wonder if there is any "margin" that they recommend between the rating and the weight of cars?

what's the load rating for 245/30/22? it might be different from the 20"

I have vredestein ultrac sessanta's:

F 245/30/20 1322 lbs load rating
R 295/25/20 1521 lbs load rating

I have them set to 40 PSI and haven't had any problems yet. The ride is actually much better than my Michelin pilots which were 245/35 and 285/30.

All 245-30 are the same load rating regardless of wheel size or brand of tire (according to Tirerack).
I'm not concerned anymore. Just got back from a meet. All the 3GS guys were running 245-30 or even lower profile than that and they aren't having any problems.

Yes the 245/30 is not rated high enough to hold the weight of the car in any brand. Every brand will have the same load rating. I went through this with the recent switch from the 245/30/20 to the 255/30/20 but had a slight rub on some steep driveways if I wasnt careful. I switched to the 255/30 because I had no other option and I needed to change my tires emergency because I had one 245/30 with a bubble and one with separated tread. The load capacity is also rated at max psi so we are all over loading our front tires. I al switching back but I would warn members not to push their 245/30 tires if they are used. I am going to a Michellin pilot sport AS plus because it at least has 167% of the tread wear rating. I think the massive heat in AZ mixed with a week of driving around with a loaded car did the tires in. I have to admit I was trying to stretch the tires to see if I could at least get 15K out of the tires. In the end I am going back to the 245/30 but I wont be doing any hardcore cornering when the tires are old . At least we are over loading the front tires. If we blow them we can still steer. LOL

40PSI?! I'm not sure where your located, but on my Falkens it says not to inflate past 40PSI.

I rode around for in know at least 25000 miles on a set of falken 452 245/30/22 rarely needed to rotate and they still look like i got another 15-20k in them thats in dc,md,va area hot summers and cold winters!

max psi on my tires says 50.

reggie i have been running 235 30 on my car for the past year and so do my friends for many years. no problems or issues at all and you seen how my wheels and car looks so it should be a no brainer... i also have a friend running 245 30 on his 22's on a m35 with no problems.

No problem yet. 235/30 is even lower rated for wieght than the 245/30. I think a lot of us get away with it because we are younger guys who dont roll around with the car fully loaded all of the time. Remember that te load rating is at max psi so we are all more over loaded because we dont run at max psi.

Remeber that passengers increase loads as well as hard cornering so chill when you have a loaded car in the summer and you feel like pushing the car a bit

Actually, I have thought about it. I rarely have people in the back seat but even if I do, the rear tires (275-30) have a 1600 load rating so it's all good.
I'm going with Michelin Pilot AS Plus 245-30 and 275 -30.
