what's the size of stock wheel, 8 +45 (someone correct me)? if so, that's the same as 10 +69. with 20mm spacer, that's 10+49. i am very very surprised with that setup you were rubbing, maybe coz' the tires are very bulky.

with 9+30 with 265, i think it's ok but that's probably with a bit of fender work (maybe take out the trim).

Maybe like you said, the stock tires are bulky because 20mm spacer with stock extends only 20mm to the outer (front) position vs. 9 +30 extends about 28mm. But with the help from your fender rolling thread and discussion, 9+30 265 should be ok.
