Driving with parking brake on to watch dvd's?
On my last GS I installed an aftermarket indash dvd player that would only work when the parking brake was engaged, like the ml dvd player on the 3gs.
The shop that installed that unit for me adjusted my parking brake so I could push it down one click, just enough to enable dvd play, and I could ride around like that without doing any harm. It worked great. The barking brake light would stay on my dash but my parking brake worked fine, I would just push it all the way down when I needed it, it never made a smell, nothing. I dont think the brake pad was actually touching anything, hence no smell, so no friction= no problem.
Is it possible to do this in the 3gs. I might try going for a short ride in my neighborhood tonight with the brake pushed down one click just to test it out. I would really like to be able to watch dvd's on road trips but not bad enough to pay all that money for the hac. Thoughts?

that sounds too dangerous to me, i wouldn't do it. your car is 06 so warranty is almost ending i suppose. you have the option to do wire cutting to enable dvd playback but of course if anything goes wrong down the road, tough
otherwise as lims said, i'd get the override kit. cost more of course, but i never cut wires in my cars. if you are interested in that you can email chung@prestigioussociety.com

^ what rominl said. don't take dangerous shortcuts, it might cost you more (a lot more) in the long run. save up and get the override kit or find someone who can do the wire hack.

ok just tried it....i def have to push the pedal further in the 3gs....barely had to push to get one click in the 2gs.....i let it roll for a sec and i couldnt tell if there was friction or not but im leaning towards yes so i didnt try it
ive heard good things about the ps unit.....how much for the kit+install? time to do some reading tonight

but to be very honest, if all you care is watching dvd when driving, and your warranty will be out soon (or out already), it becomes more debatable whether wire cutting makes more sense to you

hehe henry hates wire cutting and i hate ugly switch..
wiring cutting isn't really that bad, just make sure the installer knows what he is doing and do it cleanly enough not to draw suspicion. Dealer has taken out my headunit many times to fix the rattles and never said anything =)

[QUOTE=rominl;4694289]well the kit will probably run you about 300 bucks and you can override the navigation too (no screen hidden menu tapping anymore)
wait kit overrides nav??? mine only does dvd...what the hell is goin on????

To the original poster, I would like to say even the parking brake being applied wont work, the speed sensor goes to the head unit and disables the video as well. So irregardless of the parking it wont work, the system is redundant. Just snip a couple of wires as outlined in the sticky or get the PS kit
