So why does the 450h only have 292 HP, but the regular 350 have 303 HP (all HP figures at the crank)? both the 350 and 450h share the same 3.5L V6 engine, why would there be a 11 HP difference? I am asking about just the V6 engine difference, not the added HP that the hybrid system provides to the 450h (and yes, i do know that the 450h produces 339 HP at the crank, engine/hybrid system combined output )
i sorta feel cheated that i lost out on the 11 HP that i should have had! j/k!

lol, MP and the other guys are correct. THE RX 400 and 450h also have detuned gasoline engines.
Storm, would you rather more HP for more performance from the gas engine or less power for more economy. I wish Lexus offered a range of GS hybrids, some for more efficiency and the current 450h which IMO is fast enough for a hybrid.

i can't have both? seriously, if it was either performance or economy choice, i'd rather have more HP for more performance. i didn't buy the 450h for its gas sipping qualities (i would have gotten the hybrid prius if i wanted the best gas mileage). i would have went with an is-f for the performance, but the wife vetoed it (she knows i have a heavy right foot, and wants me alive long enough to at least pay off the mortgage and the kid's future university education! )

i think the 450h's ECU is different than the regular 350's ECU, just because the 450h's ECU has to also take into account the hybrid system, because there is a seemless transition between V6 engine and electric motor that only the ECU can control and compensate...i had thought about swapping a regular 350 ECU into the 450h (to gain the extra 11 HP), but realized then the hybrid system won't work properly...you need the 450h ECU
