Default Keyfob programming

Just traded my 01 GS430 for 06 GS300 and only have one keyfob. Online source is offering new keyfob for 99.00 and claims that I can program it myself. Is this true? Will dealer program for bought from someone else?

i was in the same situation as you so i went ahead and bought a new key at the dealer for only $120 ( remote only ) + $40 ( key - free charge for cut at dealer ) ... they charge me $25 to program it...i don't think you can program it yourself unless you know a lexus tech...

are there instructions to marry a new key fob to a 2011 GS350? or is it mandatory to go to the dealer?

requires special equipment. either you pay a few grand for the equipment or go to dealer.

You can self program the 2GS fob but not the more recent smart key.

To program a new Smart Key, the FCC ID's should match. Also, if a key was originally programmed for a GS, then it should be reporgrammable to any GS. If it was an IS, or an ES, the key would have originate for the same car you're trying to reprogram to. This is how it was explained to me from a local lexus tech. I bought 3 keys online and only 1 of them actually worked.
