Default Help for Gen 4 upgrade - hybrid disk

I purchase the Gen 4 upgrade (which is what my car uses). I have tried to build the hybrid disk with the 5.1 Loading.kwi file in the 7.1 disk with no luck. I am able to copy my old DVD and use the backup, but building the hybrid, it will not load.

First question. For a Gen 4 V7.1 disk, will using the Loading.kwi from 5.1 work? Thanks!

Mike

PS - I also purchased my 7.1 from Sewell for $260.

Based on my own experience the hybrid 5.1/7.1 will NOT work with Gen4 Navs (using the u20, u22) dvds. i was able to get a 5.1/6.1 to work so my dvd blank media, burner and software are not the issue. 5.1/7.1 for Gen4 won't work no matter what you read elsewhere.

llo All. Well I used the search function which showed me to how succussfully backup my original disks, I always run backups so i dont scratch my originals. Anyways after much reading I decided to make a 5.1/7.1 map disk and see if I could get it to work on the Gen5 Nav which a few others have reported as working. I disconnected the left batter terminal for 5 minutes, replugggd and then when I got in the car it told me no nav disk, or operting system or soemthing like that. I threw in my hybrid disk figuring it would start to load but it seems to just be sitting there. The 3 top right buttons are not working so i cannot do a map eject and throw in my 7.1 either. Is there a way to get the disk out or am i doing something wrong?

Muvh thanks in advance

Partially worked for me.
The Hybrid v5.1/v7.1 loads. The maps are working. The override is working. BUT ONLY 3 SEARCH FUNCTION WORK. POI Cat, Map Co-Ord and Previous. The others do NOT work. Like mstange in another forum I booted with v7.1 disk (yes, NO override) and the swapped in my Hybrid disk. All the Search Options work. (clearly NOT a disk copy problem)

Would appear that it is the LOADING.KWI issue.
There is a new file on the v7.1 disk 05.cpm that's NOT on v5.1 or v6.1. Opened this file in Notebook and there is a list of all the files in IDX folder listed.
Also opened LOADING.KWI v7.1 in Notebook and there are several calls to 05.cpm
Don't know the significance of this.

Anyone with an explanation or work around?

The 5.1/7.1 works on Gen5 machines not our Gen4s. Agree with zuck's recap above. There is a new additional file (05.cpm) that is different. I spent a lot of time and wasted a lot of double layer dvds trying to reverse engineer a 5.1/7.1. Ran chksums and experimented with combos of the index files. I could get it load but will not let you search or input addresses. Definitely a dependency between loading and cpm files that i couldn't crack. That's why i went to the plug n play nav unlock kit. That way am able to get use of my 7.1 dvd.

fazooley1, can't explain your obstacle on gen5. I don't have that system but as you read, many other gen5 posters say they got the 5/7 hybrid to work. The dvd readers are very touchy and you have to use the right blank media, burner software (eg Roxio works, Nero usually not) and burner to produce one that will load. would suggest that but if your standard backups run, then that isn't it.

Question of the day:

Gen 5 hardware with FULL 7.1 upgrade, (no hybrid 5.1/7.1) will it give me database of new addresses only or will it be database & updated "3D" graphics?

Bonus, previous posts mentions better NAV directions like 2nd right instead of slight right, true or false?

Thanks in advance!

-Alex

PS. This question about the upgraded graphics was asked on prior posts but was ignored...?

Don't know about your particular car, there may be posts about that in the thread, i didn't reread it. if it fits am guessing you would probably experience the 30 second unlock that i have. after 30 secs, the system relocks and you have to turn the kit switch off for a few secs then turn it on again and it unlocks the system again.

this is a start anyway check this out https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=317601

Thanks for the info... Unfortunately they have changed the plug in 08gs450h model. I've tried to do the wire cutting, but h1 is 28pins now, wire colors are changed, and pins are relocated. Why would they do that? Once Nav is modified by the owner Toyota/Lexus is not liable for anything that could result from operating the screen while driving... I'm very upset now... I want to create DVD-Audio so I have plenty of music in the car, but there is no way of navigating between albums/titles while driving. Now, what is the purpose of having dvd-a capable player?

Question U32 vs U22

I won both of these on an eBay auction. Both are 7.1 with the same part numbers. The U32 works fine-Quite a few more extras than the original 6.1 disc that came with our 2007 GS350. No more "I Agree" screen. Does anybody know what is different about the U22 disc?

the 20 series is for cars with 4th generation hardware like my 2006 gs300. U20 is dvd v 5 for 4th gen, U21 is dvd v6 for 4th gen and U22 is dvd7 for 4th gen hardware.

I have an 07 GS350. I brought my car in for service recently and they told me that I have the most recent Nav. Is that true? I thought there was one for 2008 but the guy said I was wrong.

That's what I thought too, however this seller and another one on eBay are saying it's for Gen 5 systems.
