Default What the H**ll? Gum wrapper melted my cup holder??

I came into my car, I was cleaning my cup holder and the bottem is MELTED! All I keep there is GUM and drinks. The melted plastic is the same dent as if I staked the gum box. What kind of cheap plasic is Lexus using? I can't believe its gotten THAT hot in the car. Heck, I would figure other things to melt first. To top it off, the gum box looks ok. No plastic smell from it either.

Wait. it is from teh gum wraper and not from something under the cup holder? And you can tell by the marks, its not from a cup.

It looks like it melted from a solvent, not heat. Any chance the wrapper came in contact with gasoline or something similar?

With the way the gum is pointed it looks like it would be hit by direct sunlight and the whole surface areas heat would be transfered to the other end (similar to the way a magnifying glass can start a fire)...thus the melting.

Surprised it didn't melt the gum though.

Still that is bad for the plastic to melt. The gum is fine. And heh. My car is tinted with one of the best heat reducing tint. My car interior gets into the upper 90's, but hawaii doesn't get hotter than about 93deg on its hottest days. And I understand it gets hotter in the car, but the new tint cuts off alot of the heat. This is just weird.

Dude, there is no way in hell your gum did that, did you remove that panel for anything, it looks like you forgot a hot glue gun on it or something....may be when you did the nav hack....oh wait you have no nav... with all the little issues that youve had ....you need to roll that car off a cliff and say you forgot it in drive and start over....

The only thing I keep in the cup holder is cold drinks (I dont like hot stuff) and my gum. The last thing I did was take the car in for service. a few weeks ago. It could be I didnt see it since then. They checked for bad radio reception (not fixed), my driver seatbelt locking up. and rest was outside of my car I think. So I don't want to point fingers at them. But this is strange.
