I live under the same heat as you do, and I have never seen anything like that in any of my cars before. God knows I keep some thing in the cup holders or plastic pocket bins that are metal and can and do get very hot where you cant touch, but it has never melted much less scared the plastic. Hawaii doesn't get that hot unlike the heat waves in the mainland so this is very strange. I don't have an GS though so this is just my experience on my other cars and other Lexus cars I've owned.

I've only had drinks and my cell phone in the cup holder so far...

I really don't see how a gum wrapper could do that though...

Maybe it was the cell phone? Sometimes those things can get REALLY warm! If it was the gum wrapper, maybe it was the foil? Don't ask how, just another thought.

Man that is nasty....I sure hope it didn't happen at your service....I'm definately keeping my gum in my middle console:-) Either way that shouldn't happen in a car of this caliber...or maybe you put down a hot pipe of something....seeing you are from Hawaii:-)....what's it called over there..."pokalolo"....just playing bro.

could it be leaking batteries dripping the liquid from the electronics? It can corrosive to the interior. Just a guess...

No plastic smell from it either.
I'm guessing that the plastic used for the bottom of the cup holder is polypropylene which is used quite extensively in the automobile industry. Given that, the melting point of polypropylene is between 156F to 176F depending on compound type. I doubt that the temperature of the gum wrapper could ever get that high unless it was on fire.

I would take it to the dealer and see what they think - there is just no way you did this to it without knowing, as it would have had to be something super hot to cause that level of damage!

Someone must have used some sort of cleaner/chemical that made the plastic soft (cleaning dried soda ring or somethin) then cell or something was thrown in there. Just my guess
