I think the 0-60 times for the 98-00 GS400 are pretty close to the new GS460 times.. For 42 more HP the car should have better times unless its over 4k pounds? One thing that isn't bad is the HP to torque numbers are relatively close so you should probably feel power all through the power band..

The GS has always been (at least the 2nd gen) the sporty model for Lexus. It competes with the 5-series, e-class, A6, etc. When buyers shop and look at these cars, they'll see that the GS460 has the least power compared to the rivals. There aren't too many buyers out there that understands torque rating. All they think is more hp, the better. HP sells. Already there are plenty of people on here (even 1sicklex) are turned off by the hp ALONE. That says something.
When Lexus marketed the 3rd Gen GS as the "Performance Luxury Sedan", it's not wrong to expect some performance out of it. It's always better to be class leading than not.

Totally agree with SICK, what a HUGE dissapointment .
What happened to the highly credible rumours of a revised rear end with revised tails?
The official press release makes no mention of any technical specs for the engine, what gives?
Shame on Lexus for such a mediocre update after over 2 years of anxious waiting for the GS430 to get a new engine.
I hope some Lexus/Toyota employees are reading this, because if the next-gen (4th gen) GS is not a HUGE improvement over the current 3GS, then you will see A LOT of very dissapointed Lexus fans and Lexus enthusiasts, which will translate to lost sales and lost customers. I emplore Lexus to STOP being mediocre about the GS and to use it's FULL engineering might and resources to make the 4th gen GS a world-class machine capable of taking out a 5 Series or E Class.
