Default GS350 Wheel/Tire Replacement Option

I've got a 1 month old GS350 AWD - loving it - except for the runflats. I'm planning to remove the Dunlop runflats and in the process I'm also getting a set of OEM 5 Spoke 18x8 wheels to replace the stock 10 spoke 17x17.5 wheels. The recommended tire is 245/40R18 and I am considering a set of 245/45R18 for the slightly increased sidewall. Does/will this present any issues that makes it a good idea to stick with the recommended size?

Thanks.

If you don't use the recommended size, the speedometer will not accurately display your speed. This is because the tire circumference is different. You might think that the circumference is the same for any tire that fits on an 18 inch wheel, but its not. Go to a tire size calculator website to see the amount of error on your speedo for a different size tire.

Yup - understood. I did check such - I should have been more specific in my question. The tire size calculator I used put out a warning because the tires were greater than 3% of the original tires. What is that all about?

BTW: with all the electronic sophistication in these cars you would think that the speedo raw reading could be adjusted to account for the actual size of the tires mounted, given the tire size used to establish the baseline speed calibration.

Definitely, if there was a way to access that in the car's computer.

I just purchased a set of the 5-spokers myself and can't wait to get them installed, though I plan to wait until summer time and to also swap the brake pads to the low-dust kind before switching. I'm wondering if the 245 40 18s which are used on the RWD 350 will cause any interference in the AWD due to any differences in suspension geometry, etc. Have you looked into that?

Thanks. I had actually seen that a few weeks ago. I've got the speedometer part down; my concern was really about the width of the 245s in an AWD car...

I plan to do the same in my 5k checkup.

They are the stock recommendation for the 18s so should not present any problems.

I hear you, it's just that Lexus will not ship a 350AWD with the 18" 5-spoke wheels from the factory, even special order. There may be no particular reason behind that, but I just want to make sure that they'll work with the stock 18" tire.

That said, they do offer the G-Spider optional wheels for the AWD. If those use the 245 40 18s (and I would assume they do because of the issue with the overall diameter), then it's a matter of confirming that the G-Spiders have the same offset as the 5-spoke wheels. I haven't been able to locate that number yet, though the 5-spoke wheels have offset +40mm, I believe.

Where did you guys get your 5-spoke 18" GS430 wheels? How much? Beside dealership, the only other source I found was on eBay where they sell "slightly used/nicked" wheels. Even if its from eBay, can you provide that specific link, please?

I picked up a set on eBay from the folks at lexus-parts.com. The set came off a GS430 for which the buyer went with some other wheel option.

I also got the wheels on eBay from the lexus-parts.com (Sewell Lexus) people. To make searching easier, you can look for their eBay store, which is called itsallaboutyourlexus, and they usually have a set under GS items.
