Just wondering. Given the battery, would the 450h still run even if the gas tank was empty?

If the gas tank is empty, the car won't run. The hybrid system still depends on the gas engine.

yes it can...it still has the n/a engine so it will if you don't fill it up. toyota and lexus recommends that you don't let that happen to your car because if you engine dies from lack of gas and your batteries are drained...only toyota/lexus can get the car started again...and they would have to tow your car on a flat bed truck because the hybrid system will be messed up and they would have to fix it. I have driven the prius until the gas was out and the battery from the hybrid battery goes out fast but luckly I was on local and found a gas station right away. to be safe is to just fill it on around 15 miles or less when the gas light goes on. I know that the prius and rx400h can last longer than 15 miles after the gas light goes on but not sure about the gs450h....well hope this info helps...

yes, don't ever let your car run completely out of gas... You'll need a tow from lexus....
It's not a simple fix you can do. They will need to do the reseting....
Once I ran 5 milies past ZERO... B/c I just wanted to go to a gas station a little further away.
Risky....
But I made it.

i believe it wont let you start the engine in empty. IT can try 3 times and then it shuts off completely.
