Default Dial by Number procedure

I'm completely puzzled; please, help me figure out how to Dial by Number when driving. Here's what I do:

1. Push the Talk button, wait for the beep and say "Dial by Number".

2. The system says something about waiting for the screen to change and then pushing the Talk button.

3. I wait until the screen prompts me to push Talk and say the number. I push talk, wait for the beep and say the number.

4. The system repeats the number back and says to push talk or press the Off Hook button. The problem is, I have to wait several seconds for the system to show the dial-pad screen (with all buttons grayed out) before I can push the Off Hook button to dial. If I try to push Talk, it seems that the phone number I've said before goes away.

What am I doing wrong? I thought theere was a way to confirm the number by pushing Talk and saying "Dial", but I can't seem to figure out how and when to do it.

How can I speed up the process that takes over 30 seconds now? On my previous car I could push the Talk button, say "Dial 202-555-5555", the system would immediately display the number I said and I could immediately push the Talk button and say "Dial". The whole process taking under 10 seconds.

Pushing the "Talk" button after it repeats back the number is like cancel. It then expects you say the number again (in case it got it wrong the first time). Just hit off hook to dial. This confused the heck out of me the first few times also.

I just got my '08 RX350 2 weeks ago and I am really enjoying it. I'm just now finding the time to familiarize myself with the bluetooth options. I too am a bit befuddled by the Dial by Number functionality. I followed the response below however, when I hit the off hook button the number does not dial, and the keypad screen appears. What am I doing wrong? I'm starting to wonder if Dial by Number is not functioning properly.

Thank you for clearing up the fact that you don't push the talk button because it cancels the number you are requesting. That was driving me crazy. Hopefully you can all shed some light on why it won't dial even when the off hook button is used.

PS - Sorry for posting in the GS forum but this was the only thread I found addressing this question after performing a search.

Thanks in advance!
