Default Ride Comfort 18" -> 19" -> 20" wheels

Can anyone comment on how much comfort is lost in the ride when going from 18 to 19 or 20 inch wheels?

I was planning on using Michelin PS2 Sport tires.

Is the loss of ride comfort that much different between 19 and 20s?

thanks -

There is a noticeable difference in the ride for sure from 19" to 20". More so from 18" to 20" which most do. You'll notice the differance when you hit dips or pot holes in the road. The more rubber on the rim the better the ride. Also a better chance of rim damage if you hit pot holes, etc..

Twenties have a little harsher ride because the tire profile is lower...less rubber between the rim and the road, less cushion.
I have 19's on my G35 with plenty of cushion. The ride is very acceptible. Lately, I have been looking at the set-up and regretting I didn't go 20's. I see G35's with 20's and they look goobily good. I'm and really thinking about going bigger. What's a little harsher ride when you can look like a baller.

Reggie that's exactly how I felt when I was single in my twenties. Also then didn't think much about my rent being equal to my car payment

Now that I've crossed the 35 barrier with kids it's more of a trade off for me. I still hate stock wheels, but now the ride is important too.

I don't think one view is more right than the other, it's just want you want most.

For this old man, I'll probably stick with 19's and be content to admire your soon to be 20's as I drive by your G35.

Sorry man I can't believe this -

I've now talked to the owners of two performance shops who have test driven a lot of different wheel and tire sizes -

They both said there is a detectable difference between 19 and 20.

Maybe if you keep the same sidewall size the ride would be similar, but that's not possible for anyone who wants to keep the overall diameter stock. (20's at the same diameter require a pretty small sidewall).

Man Just Go With The 20's ... The Look Is Going To Be Bad ***... And I'm Sure When It's All Said And Done You Will Kick Yourself For Not Getting Them.... Just My 2 Cents...

Thirty five is nothing, you still a youngin next to me. I'm way past 40....past 45. I've been buying performance wheel longer than most people around here. Probably longer than some peoples age. The ride has alway been important to me. Years ago I swore to myself to never go above 19. I use thick tires 245-40 and 275-35 to have a pretty decent ride.
It's just that sometimes I look at a set of 20's and think the look is worth the ride comfort drop. We'll see...us old guys like that thick tire muscle look but everything changes eventually.

I have 20x8.5 245/35/20 and 20x10 275/30/20 sure it doesn't ride stock but neither would 19's. It is such a small difference that the only thing you will notice is people saying "dude 19's what as the big deal?" I guess if you aren't going staggered then who cares anyways not going staggered is worse than rolling stock.
Point taken.

And I agree staggered is the only way to go - I've been planning to do staggered regardless.

Btw, I've now decided on Zone 1 wheels from D2, for me, love the look of that wheel.
