Question about White Paint
In about a month or two I'm going to be getting a 3GS 350. I would like to know if anyone has past experience with a white car and scratches. I'm a senior in highschool so you know how there are haters and what not, so god forbid someone does key my car do you guys think it will be harder to notice on a White GS? Eternity3G you have a white 3GS so if you could help me that would be great. If it stands out very much like any other color then I will just get the color i really want ( Smokey Granite Mica ). Thanks! ~

you're screwed if a car in any color gets keyed. But a white one should do better than most. Nevertheless its still gonna need a repainting if its deep enough so dont pick a color by the possibility that some jerkoff will key the car. pick what you like!

Usually, white is one of the harder colors to match.

White hides dirt and minor imperfections (dings and small scratches) better than darker colors. Saying that, a deep scratch from a keying is going to need to be repainted.

I am not surprised at all about the HS senior getting an expensive car like an LS because there are some truly spoiled kids out there. However, I am surprised that any HS senior would choose an LS given the cars available in that price range! Why not a Mercedes CLK/E, BMW 5/3 , Porsche Boxster/Cayman, any number of cars out there? A GS350 is sportier and more fitting for a younger male but why on earth a LS at that age?

The problem with automotive whites is that they usually don't have a clearcoat, so ANY scratch that can't be buffed out needs a repaint. If someone keyes your obsidian, the hope is that they don't go deeper than the clearcoat, so it can still be buffed out with effort.
So it shows more, but becuase of that, you've got a better chance of it not being as deep...
With regards to the HS senior thing, I went to such a high school, and the running joke was whether people with X5's (back when they were brand new) would park on the BMW or SUV side of the parking lot.

The GS is not available with straight white paint. It's a metallic pearl white and definitely has a clearcoat. FWIW, I believe that most white paints these days do have a clear coat. I have yet to see a newer car that didn't.
