Default Sirius radio question

I have a Sirius Starmate receiver that I have been using in my old car. Now that I have a GS350, I would like to hardwire the antenna cable and the audio line out so that I don't have to use the FM transmitter. I am just wondering if I can use the sharkfin as my antenna and is there a cable that runs from that to the dash that I can splice into?

This is my first post, but I hope to become more active on here. Just got my GS about 3 weeks ago.

No to all of the above but there is a simple and reasonably elegant solution to the problem. If I had my digital camera with me I could post pics but I installed my Sirius receiver and the only thing you can see is one area where you can see 1" of thin black wire and another area where you can barely see 1/2" of thin black wire. Sounds excellent and might even be better than the factory integrated Sirius install on my Mercedes GL450 as well as the direct hard wired (non RF modulator) XM installs on 3 other vehicles. This sounds every bit as good! I would stay away from any RF modulator stuff because the limitation is FM itself. The sound quality is so bad that I would rather not listen to sat radio if I had to go that route.

I would be interested in hearing/seeing more about how you did the install.

If you have cassette in the dash, use a cassette adapter. Better sound quality than FM modulator.

second the cassette adapter, much better output than just the FM modulator, but for us,my wife didn't want another wire to hassle with ;she's already tired of the x-tra long antenna wire and the cig adapter.

Mine is sitting in the center console but that's the way I like it. The Starmate doesn't allow you to turn off the display so I prefer to put it inside the console unless I need it. It's just too damn bright even at the lowest setting. I still have not come up with a nice place to permanently mount it so this will have to do for now. I might try putting it inside the sunglass holder in the future. Here is a shot of the antenna outside the car. I could probably pull out a little bit of slack but I might move the receiver so I left it like this.

Here is a shot of the wire inside the car and one of only 2 spots where you can see the install.

Here is a shot of the cassette adapter wire. It runs under the wood into the armrest storage area.

Finally, here is a shot of the sat unit. All of the wires go into the storage area and the power is drawn from the 12v source there as well. Like I said, I may move it in the future to the sunglass holder but this works for me because all I listen to is Howard100 anyways, entertainment at it's finest!

BTW, I'm sure you could spend a little extra time and hide the antenna wire by mounting it on the rear deck but that's a whole lot of work to hide 1" of wire. Plus, the antenna might be too short for that because you would have to route the wire around the trunklid and trunk area to hide it there as well, come through the ski pass through or remove the rear seat completely, route down and inside the doorsills, up the leading edge of the front door, into the dash and then into the center console. Unless of course you go under the carpet in the rear passenger area and directly into the center console. See what I mean by a lot of work for 1" of wire.

You could also bypass the cassette wire by using the RF modulator function but the sound quality is waaaaaaay better with the cassette adapter.

Hey Robert,
nice follow up on the installation of your Sirius unit, kudos to you for pointing out that there's a 12v input in the center console,I never would have bothered to look or read about it in the manual!!
I already took your lead and plugged in there,I have my antenna on the inside rear deck and ran my wire into the center console to my unit which is mounted on the suction cup mount.
Here's a pic of the unit:

BTW H100&H101 rules!!!!
