why won't CD player play CD-R cda files?

why won't CD player play CD-R cda files?
Friend burned some CD's on CD-R disks, and they will not play in my car. They play fine on my computer. I have burned CD-R's myself, and they play fine in my car. I burn mp3's and the files on the CD-R disks that my friend burned were cda files.
The CD-R's with the cda files play fine in their car (dodge Neon), why can't it play in my Lexus??

I don't know whether you have the Mark Levinson system, but according to the website below, CDA is not listed as a supported format for that system. The CDA format is different than MP3, of course. My guess is that the Lexus standard audio doesn't support CDA either.

Well said. It will read CD-R's, it is the CDA format that is in question here. I personally have never even heard of it so I can't answer to the question. So I am a tech tard.

I never heard of cda files either. The person that burned them downloads the files from some 'free' service, so who knows. Just wierd that they play in her car and in other cars, but not my Lexus....

Well, aren't .cda files the files on a regular Audio CD? When viewing an Audio CD in Windows, there are files in the format TrackXX.cda which basically tells where the track starts and stops on the CD.
Well, the CD's in question SHOULD be regular Audio CD's, and we know that the Lexus system definitely plays regular audio CDs (burned or not). Soooo.... If you really want to find out what the deal is... I say, try burning those CDs (1:1 copy) on a different brand of media at... say, medium speed. It COULD be because the ML system isn't as forgiving as those other systems when playing bad media and/or poorly burned discs.
Other than that, I'm really at a loss. Can't think of anything else it could be. Not that nobody cares... it's just that it's an odd and confusing situation that really doesn't have a definite answer IMO.
