OFFICIAL 2008 GS 460 Thread! (new info 342hp?)

I called the dealer and asked about the GS350. It should be here in Oct and have the IS's engine w/306hp.
My family and I could be in the market for a new car. Not sure, but it would be the 5 vs E vs GS. The 5 isn't a reliable car to own, so that is out of question. I just don't like the E in terms of looks, exterior and interior. That leaves the GS, but we don't really want another Lexus. Not to offend anyone, just that we've owned a couple of Lexus', and kinda want something diff. I view Lexus, MB, and BMW as great brands w/different pros/cons. But I do like the look of the GS a lot, so we'll see what happens...

Nope. Not b/c of the car, but b/c of their service. It is very convenient to have Lexus, MB,or BMW drive an hour or so to pick up our car for service. Audi doesn't do this, thus we never really look at them, even though they make nice cars. I love the look of the A6, but the ease of getting car service is something my family and I value a lot. That's kinda one reason why we have not gone the BMW route. I think we would go toward BMW if we were leasing it, or getting it w/o I-drive b/c of their reliability.

I heard today that the LS600hL will...

I have confirmed that the earlier reports of a fit issue with the GS460 powerplant are true and they are doing modifications now to make it work. The LS600hL is due out about this time next year so I would expect any GS460 to come after that at least. The GS350 will replace the GS300 in all variants and the engine will be retired unless needed in other countries. The GS450h version of the V6 is detuned to 292 HP inorder to make it start quickly for hybrid purposes. The GS350 will have the same version as the IS350. There are no plans to take the original GS300 motor and drop it into the IS at this time.
BTW, The GS450h is astounding to drive. I can't wait for its big brother next year.

thanks for the info, rock, definitely nice to hear the 600hl might be on a 5L v8. if that's the case that's going to be quite a bit more power
about the gs460, i have to say, if it's true, then it's probably one of the stupidest thing lexus has done recently....

Wow....thats really cool about the LS600h. I had strong feelings that it would probably use a 5.0L engine.
About the GS460, as long as they make it work and not decrease performance. I would hope that the 8speed auto is what is giving them fitment issues. icant see this tranny being small by any means.

That is sad about the engine fitment in the GS460. I defended Lexus in that other posts about the fitment issue saying a company like Lexus can't be that stupid and not think ahead far engouh to not make enough room for the new engine and only room for the old V8. I guess I stand corrected. I really don't get it at all. Where they really planning on using the old V8 for the entire 3rd gen GS cycle? Oh well, I'm all for the GS350 anyway so since that car is comfirmed I really don't care.

Since the GS350 is pretty much confirmed to get the 3.5L IS350 306Hp engine, anyone know anything else about the specs? I predict it will also get the same larger brake and rotor specs as the IS350 being the HP figures are the same. What about the fuel efficiency? Any word on that?

Gs 350 Awd

Maybe I'm missing the boat, but typically the reason that AWD is not offered on more powerful versions, is that the drivetrain can't handle the additional power. Hopefully, they will upgrade the system to accommodate, but then, why wouldn't they have done that in concert with the IS 250/350 design?
