WHY on earth would anyone remove the entire engine and transmission to fix an oil leak? No matter how good they are putting that engine back together, it would not be as good as it was assembled from the plant. I sure hope tthey torque everything to spec and no extra bolts laying around when they put that thing back together.

If they don't give you a new car, I would get rid of that one ASAP.

I really do hope they get you a new car.

Although I agree with you remember we have lots of members who have done complete engine swaps and they're not having any problems. Some others have had their engines opened and modded......having port and bore jobs, etc. Surely the dealer can be trusted to do no less than perfectly reinstall their own product. Let's keep our fingers crossed though.

Default well its done..

The repair is complete. I asked the dealer why they had to remove the enigne and trasmission they stated due to the location of the leak acess was a problem and also that they changed all the seals in the engine. So they finished working on it yesterday I did not pic it up yet wanted to enjoy my weekend. So monday i will le t you all now how it is running. Lexus head office called me to apologize of all the problems and to reassure me that the car would be fine. they aslo gave me a free 30,00 mile service if that counts for anything...anyway I will keep you posted.

The dealer has reassured me that all is well...

Wow and this is a 06 GS and they had to do that? I hope it doesn't leak in the future. I would want another car.

Default "The infamous timing cover leak"

SO! it seems that these engines around the same Gen are having timing cover gasket fails from my research and it is pretty expensive of a repair it your not a self enthused repair type. Yes it's definitely the timing cover because mines is leaking too 😆 (2006 Lexus GS300 AWD) I just found a temporary solution tho...drain all the oil from the pan and filter as well "get new filter" this car takes 7qts of oil so use/pour 3qts of fresh oil, 1bottle of "Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak" then, pour in the remaining 3qts. Go drive the car at least 200 miles and it should slow that leak all the way down to give you time to properly repair that gasket/gaskets. It worked for me! 😃✌🏽 235,000 miles and she is pushing.

2006 GS300 179000 miles. Timing chain cover gasket leak also. I have tried StopLeak. Does anyone know much about ATP-205 and you think I should try?
Any response would be appreciated. I only drive 5000 miles and don’t want to purchase a new car. The car has been excellent and still looks awesome.

Are you positive it is the front cover that is leaking? I had a front leak and looked like a front timing cover, and I even made a post about it. Once I took it to a mechanic, he told me its only a seal behind the crankshaft pulley thats leaking. Seal was cheap and labour was about 30 min. So just make sure a good mechanic can diagnose the car properly. Using stuff like stopleak is not good imo, it can clog other oil ports. Also by the book it states you must remove the engine, but many mechanics say it can be done inside the engine and all you do is remove the radiator, water pump, and front timing cover.

Thanks for the advise. I will contact my mechanic and discuss these options.
