Hello all, I have a 2006 GS 300 AWD that I bought about 2 months ago. Yesterday on my way to work the check engine light came on and the screen said CHECK VSC. In the manual this says that it is not a major problem it can be driven but to take it to the dealership as soon as possible. So today I had some time and dropped by the dealership to have them check it out, thinking it was no big deal. Unfortunately over 2 hours later still no word. 2 1/2 hrs. in I see the tech walking across the parking lot (thinking to myself this is not a good sign). He told me that he did'nt know how much longer it was going to take and that they have been trying to get a hold of the Lexus Tech Line on the phone because this was something that they have never seen before (my suspision was right). He then began to tell me that my car was running incredibly rich and should not be driven at all. So I currently have a an 05 RX 330 on loan and waiting to hear from them about my 2,600 mile GS. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I hope this won't cause any problems in the future. Any ideas or thoughts to ease my mind would be great. I'll update as soon as I hear any more info. Thanks, Glenn
Welcome to CL Glenn. I think you're car will be o.k, trust me. Some of the new code for the 2006 is related to the new software/emission to suite the U.S emission laws or stricttly CA laws. The dealership and the tech will have to retrieved all of the info, print, copy and call the TAS aka tech hot line.
BTW, I just did the same with the RX400h with multiple misfired code. I'd kept the car for over 2 hours, called the TAS, called the local engineer and talked to the customer. The code for the RX400h was the P0300 multi misfired and that's was it. I have to corrected the gasolined from the gas tank, asked the customer what brand and grade of the gas. It was a good 2 hours for nothing. The check engine light was set after he filled up the gas( about 80 miles after he filled up), but the gas cap was tight. Now the engineer thinks the oil/gas company may put some additive to the gasoline or something that is not suitable. Well, after the Kartina and Rita hurricane we're in some kind of gas crisis and it may effect the quality of the gasoline we used on our car.
This is the first time I've heard about the problem with the 06 GS300 AWD. Please keep us post.

just kick back let the techs handel the work. and enjoy putting miles on a car thats not urs
As far as I can remember I think I was at least 3/4 through my tank. And I usually stick to Sunoco gas. Still waiting for the happy call from the dealer. Until then I'll be running the nuts off this RX.
I just went thru this with my GS430 last week. A search of the internet suggested it was a loose gas cap. I went to the garage, opened the fuel door, and the cap was indeed loose. I went to the dealer anyway, as I had already arranged the appointment, and they reset the code with the diagnostic tool. They said it would have eventually cleared itself, but it takes "a long time" whatever that means. It did not clear in the two on/off cycles I tried.
my check engine light came on a month ago they said it was because of a loose gas cap? nothing major cleared the code. that light only regulates emsissions at least that is what i was told. Dr. Sud
This suxs if they do the TSB will this fix the problem. I have never had the check engine light go on but maybe I should have them just do the TSB this way I will be safe. What do you guys think????? I work for a lexus dealer and they told me it is very rare but I still am concerned because my car does idle a bit rough?????
That was the only thing weird about when my car was acting up, is that it never had an idle problem or anything like that. But I may not have really noticed since it was probably like that from when I bought it. Just poor gas mileage. It has since improved a little but nowhere near what I would like. I recently passed 10,000 miles and no more problems yet.
I have a little update on this subject. Once again my check VSC light has begun to come back on. It started last week and would come on and off throughout the week. On friday I just drove around near the dealership until it came on then went to the service manager to show him. This time I was met with a much happier response other the previous encounters. It seems that Lexus has finally figured out what the problem is and has a hopefully longer term solution. They now have another new computer for my car and they will replace the oxygen sensors to match with the new ECU. The service manager said that they would order everything and call me when it came in reset the code and sent me on my merry way. Will let you know after this attempt to solve the problem.

I'm going through the same garbage. First trip to the dealer: "it was a loose gas cap, we tightened it and reset the warning." Several days later it came on again. Second trip to the dealer: "we pressure tested the gas cap, and it failed so we replaced it and reset the warning." That was today. I hope I won't have to go back for major surgery.
Anyway, when did gas caps become such a critical component? I thought they were all about keeping the fuel from sloshing out.
hey, sorry to here about your car! I will tell you that the smell is unique and at times I could even see a very thin layer of smoke coming fron the grill, it was oil leaking on to some exhaust pipe however the problem was that the leak was from the rear of the enigine so they had to remove the entire engine and trust me I was not happy I would call lexus head quarters make them aware of the problem and your disatisfication they gave me a few free things i was satelite radio they installed it and paid the subscription second was free 15,000 mile service and 30,000 mile service they new i was pissed and i was gonna hire a lawyer but thruthfully toyoto motor corp is huge you really have no chance in getting any where, the do have great customer service although the did fix the problem and i have yet to go back for anything besides oil changes so keep fighting let them now you are not gonna give up cause at the end of the day you paying for the car. well let me know how it goes. Dr. Sud
Why me! First all the problems with the GS, which I traded in on an IS 250. My GS is perfect now. I went to the dealer 2 weeks ago for my 5k service on the IS and learned and they had sold the GS to one of the managers brothers. And he hasn't had a problem. Yesterday my Check VSC light came on in this car too!! WTF!!!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I recently took my 06 GS 300 (RWD), with 20k miles in for service due to the check engine light - VSC coming on. I took it to Lexus of Towson here in Maryland on Dec 26th. They told me they would have to replace my O2 sensor and my ECU and that this is a common issue with the 06 GS's. They also are replacing my front passenger shock which has also gone bad. They did give me a loaner (07 ES 350) which rides as smooth as silk, but I miss my GS, and I'm not sure when I'll be getting it back
