Bad news. Almost exactly 1 week from picking up my car the Check Engine, Check VSC light is back on. I ran about a full tank of gas and today it came back on. . I'll take it to the dealer tomorrow morning.

When I went in they told me that I would have to make an appointment to bring it in 2 weeks from then. So I made my appointment for Nov. 8 to take it in. The tech said they would have it for about a week. They reserved the RX for me. But yesterday the light went out on it's own. I'll keep driving it until it gets close to the 8th maybe the light will come back on by then, if not i'll just cancel the appointment or maybe the new computer is released from emissions by then and it'll just be replased anyway. But fuel mileage has gotten better since the light just went out now I'm getting 22.8 MPG. Will keep this updated as to what unfolds.

I took the car in on tuesday even though the light was'nt on. They plugged it into the computer bat it did'nt tell them anything. The service rep told me to just keep driving it and to call when the light comes back on. He said the car is outside running so just call them when it happens. I walked out to the car got in..... got back out..... walked back inside and said "hey do you know the lights on right now". So i'm driving a white RX 330 this time (last one was silver). But this one is a piece of crap, or at least looked like one. Wheels were covered in brake dust and something, the windshield was so filthy I could barely see outof it at night or when I would turn into the sun, and there is dor hair allover the dash and dog slober all over the passenger front window. All of which I cleaned the day I got it. I think I should send them the bill. haha. So we'll see what the tell me this time. 2 strikes. One more and they're out and I'm going back to BMW.

Next time whenever you get a check engine light, just pull up to an Autozone or autoparts store that is similar and have them do the OBDII scan on your car. They can pull up the codes and tell you what's wrong. Thats so you can tell the dealer whats wrong with it even if the light turns off before you get to the dealer.

I got my car back last Wed. after 2 weeks and a day in the shop. So far it's running very good. Better gas mileage as well up 4 and a half MPG. This time in the shop they said it was running rich again. They checked the cold start injector for leaks, checked the fuel trims and everything else fuel related. In the end they decided it was a bad ECU and they replaced it with an updated version that Lexus designed and pushed through emissions for me. They could'nt give me any details as to what was different about this ECU, said it was their little black box secret. Car seems to have more power than before but it could be that I was driving a slow *** RX 330 for 2 weeks too. The last line on the service report was that a Lexus Technical Field Specialist was involved in the repair. So I guess that means they had to call in the big guns to fix it. I hope this will be my last post on this subject about my car.

GS300 AWD Running Rich
Anouther concerned owner,
Following the running rich syomptions described in the previous threads. I have complained about black soot on the tail pipes(indicates running rich) at my last three 5K services and each time Lexus service said it had been reported to Lexus. I haven't had any other problems, runs great and am getting 26 mpg combined mileage, but am concerned that running rich is predicting the next problem will be VSC light ON.
Any other GS300 AWD seeing this running rich problem.

This time I got a tech to fix the windows and he happened to be one of the guys that worked on my car so I fished some details out of him. First he said that my windows had to be reprogrammed (he put each window up and down a few times from the doors themselves and then they worked from the driver door). Then he went into detail about the initial problem. The car was running very rich so they had to run various tests on the CPU and fax them to Lexus. Lexus told them to reset the CPU and drive the car. They put close to 75 miles on my car over the next 3 days then tested everything again and faxed it back out to Lexus. After which Lexus told them to give the car back to me and let me drive it (They have reason to believe that this will happen again it's just a matter of I time). He told me that Lexus has an upgraded CPU ready for this problem it just has to go through all the federal emissions tests before it can be released. They hope that by the time my check engine light comes back on this will be released and then they can just replace the whole CPU. They also changed my oil and filter as per Lexus instructions in case any gas got into the oil. And they gave me 5 gallons of gas after I asked andwashed it too. So this is where I stand untill I get the joy of going through this again.

This suxs if they do the TSB will this fix the problem. I have never had the check engine light go on but maybe I should have them just do the TSB this way I will be safe. What do you guys think????? I work for a lexus dealer and they told me it is very rare but I still am concerned because my car does idle a bit rough?????

That was the only thing weird about when my car was acting up, is that it never had an idle problem or anything like that. But I may not have really noticed since it was probably like that from when I bought it. Just poor gas mileage. It has since improved a little but nowhere near what I would like. I recently passed 10,000 miles and no more problems yet.

I have a little update on this subject. Once again my check VSC light has begun to come back on. It started last week and would come on and off throughout the week. On friday I just drove around near the dealership until it came on then went to the service manager to show him. This time I was met with a much happier response other the previous encounters. It seems that Lexus has finally figured out what the problem is and has a hopefully longer term solution. They now have another new computer for my car and they will replace the oxygen sensors to match with the new ECU. The service manager said that they would order everything and call me when it came in reset the code and sent me on my merry way. Will let you know after this attempt to solve the problem.
