Default 15,000 miles service 2006GS300

15,000 mile service 2006GS300
I just returned from Keyes Lexus in Van Nuys. I was quoted $395 for the 15,000 miles service! I was so outraged that I have called the Lexus USA customer service and I complained about the entire issue. I was told that the dealerships may set their prices as they wish. The customer service representative recommended to “shopping around”.
I was quoted $225 at another Lexus dealer ( I consider this hi too, but it MAY be a reasonable charge since I will get a loaner car for the day as well as car wash).
I called back the manager of Keyes Lexus. He told me that for the $395 I will get “more service” than for the $225 offered at another Lexus dealer. However, the 15,000 maintenance service manual clearly states what the 15,000 miles maintenance should include! Excuse my “French” but the Keyes service department behaves like a hi priced prostitute offering “extra” service. I believe that this is not just unethical but also illegal (I do not refer to a prostitute).
Well, I will be not using any Lexus dealerships for maintenance or repair other than warranty repair.

Fact is servicing at a Lexus dealer is expensive. Heck, the 10k oil service usually runs almost $150. I agree though, it is frustrating when costs for routine maintenance can vary widely between dealerships. I for one have had great experiences with Keyes. But at least you have tons of dealer choices in the LA area (Keyes, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, etc).

Your sig indicates you own two older Lexus models. Just wondering if you haven't run into similar problems with these cars?

The cost for the 15K service at my dealer is $154.95 which includes:

Replace engine oil and filter
Inspect engine drive belts for cracking or separation
Check all fluids and top off as necessary
Replace air filter element
Replace wiper inserts
Inspect exhaust system
Inspect front and rear brake pads and discs
Check and adjust tire pressure including spare
Check all lights and accessories for proper operation
Lube all door hinges and antenna mast
Adjust parking brake
Road test
Courtesy exterior wash

10K service is $39.95

Yes, I have also 2 other Lexus cars. I am extremely happy with them. This is the reason I bought the new 2006GS300. However, the service of these cars is done by independent repair shop. My 2001 GS300 is due for the 90,000 mile service. I was quoted $1,250 at Vista and I even did not ask Keyes. This is again ridiculous.
I am willing to pay for quality service but I am not willing to get ripped off for oil change or tire rotation. The service manager at Keyes told me that they are asking $100/hour. Well, is oil change a brain surgery?

Unfortunately you have a case of supply and demand. The average rate for any mechanic is $90 - $100. The amount of people that want to get into this field of work has dropped, the schools teaching Transportation Mech. has dropped, and most families are pressuring their children into college and brain washing them that blue collar work is for idiots. In reality you need to have a good education to work on cars today and for these reasons they get the rate they do. The hourly wage is not only high at Lexus it is high in general.

$90-$100/hour? Do not forget that this is still just oil change and tire rotation. This is also not the case of supply and demand. This is the case of monopoly! Keyes also tried to enforce service that is not required for 15,000 miles such as wheel balancing. Again, is wheel balancing a $100/hour job?

Love the mechanics at Keyes, they are the greatest. But yes their prices are very high. And there sales staff sucks the big one. I am not a big fan of Keyes any longer.

Have you tried LMW or is that too far from you? I was thinking of trying them for my next service.

What does LMW stands for? Longo? They are too far. I live in the Valley and Keyes and Vista are the only dealer choices.

Luxury Motorworks. I hear a lot of people talking about them in the SoCal forum. But looking at your options, they are not a Lexus dealership and I believe they are in Monrovia.

I used Santa Monica for my first service, they were pretty good but not sure about their prices. They're just down the hill.

Man it seems like only yesterday you bought your car. I believe about 2-3 weeks before me. You drive quite a bit.

We just had our 5,000 mile service today and there was no charge!?! I didn't realize it was covered, is that normal? Mind you I'm not complaining.

Technically, this would have been the second as they did a 1,000 mile service too.

True. They did mine the same, not sure why and I'll never argue!

I've found most of the time it's cheaper to just have the individual things done instead of paying for the "xx,xxxx service". I do the little things myself like air filters, cabin air filter, wiper blades, radiator drain/refill, visual inspection, etc.

for my 30k svc, which was done at 26k miles, I had dealer change oil, trans fluid, and rear diff. I did the rest myself.

Default bringing an old thread to life...

i just got quoted $875 (Tustin Lexus) for 30K service which includes:

oil and air filter
inspect air filter (not hard)
replace engine coolant
inspect exhaust pipes
rotate tires (don't need, have rims)
inspect tire pressure
inspect brakes
bleed brakes, replace fluid
inspect rack and pinion for leakage
inspect ball joints and covers
inspect drive shaft boots
inspect air conditioner filter
inspect steering linkage
replace tranny fluid
replace differential oil
replace windshield wiper inserts
add fuel injection cleaner
inspect body
road test

should they be allowed to do this???
more than half of the items on the list are a stretch at best... inspect body? "Uhhh... sir, I noticed a chip in the front air dam.... " "and your exhaust tip is a bit dirty..." They are charging me for this?
