Yes but it also bundled some more items.
The GS 400 in 1998 started at 44k and change.
The GS 430 outgoing was 51k but it was pretty much loaded.
The 3GS 430 has even more items not available on the 2GS 430 and it starts at 51k

Blame the price increase on the added equipment and the yen/dollar ratio. But the cars are still much cheaper than the Germans, whom Lexus is concerend with.

I come from a long history of german cars...and this is my first highline Japanese car. And i'll tell you Audi/BMW/Mercedes has nothing on the build quality of this car. Standard product content and package of such options brings this car way below something similarly equipped (A6). I ultimately went this route and much happier; besides change is good for the soul .

If they keep designing and building these cars they way they do and keep up w/ their stellar customer service...some of the german line should be really worried.
