Default My only peeve with the new GS design..

For those of you that have washed your new GS, have you noticed that the windshield wipers can't be propped up and out of the way to allow washing the windshield? The wipers actually hit the hood first -- seems like a design oversight to me (compared to all of my other vehicles).. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Unlike most cars, you will note that the wipers aren't in the way of cleaning your windows which is why you would want to move them out of the way.

Does the 3GS have a summer and winter mode for the wipers like the 2GS? Check the manual for this.

The feature is still there, pg 54 in the manual. You can still pull it up so it's not retracted under the hood.

Cool.. I guess I should really RTFM! Oh well.. I guess I would have known this if I was a legacy Lexus owner (I'm a newbie).. Oh well.. I'll know where to start next time.. I'll have to admit that it's a rather amusing piece of engineering work if you ask me!

My 94 Acura Legend didn't require yanking or pushing on the wipers to get them in the summer/winter position - just a flick of a switch and they'd move to the other position.

Will someone please explain to me in detail exactly what this wiper winter/summer mode is and what purpose does it serve?

Personally, I'm not sure why they call it a winter/summer mode -- it's just a feature that allows you to yank (I initially thought it was motor driven w/ a pressure switch) the wipers up the windshield about 2-3 inches hence changing their travel range -- to allow (in my case) you to prop them up so you can wash underneath them.

in winter time snow gather in that area and you don't want your wipers to be there, so you pop it up to a higher location

In the winter it is generally recommended if you park outside to prop the wiper up off the glass to prevent them from freezing to it as the snow fall on your warm car melts and freezes as the car cools down. With them down and out of the way "summer mode" this can't be done. Hence the use of "winter mode". Plus it looks better down under the hood more.

Note I have found it easier to switch the them between modes from the passenger side of the vehicle.
