Anyone have any pictures of how the satellite radio menus look/work on the nav screen of the new GS?

It's nothing special. Looks and works just like the normal FM radio.

This screen is accessed by using the AM/SAT button on the radio or using the MODE button on the steering wheel.

There are also SAT2 and SAT3 pages that are identical to SAT1 giving you 18 programmable stations. The TUNE **** allows you to access the other channels.

NOTE: I have the ML Stereo but I assume that the standard Stereo looks the same

When you hit the TEXT button you get two 10 character lines of display. This limitation has been discussed at length on other Threads.

There are also SCAN button at the bottom that can be used to scan a particular TYPE of stations (i.e. Classical, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Sports etc...).

Lexus better get on the ball with this and rectify this problem. XM streams 16 charachters and SIRIUS streams 32 charachters. Im a SIRIUS subscriber and this will be a major issue for me. I guess you can call me a Satellite Radio nut...but 10 charachters is terrible. I will be getting my 06 at the end of the year hopefully there will be a fix.

Default Does XM or Sirius broadcast in 5.1 Surround?

now that i've experienced DTS audio discs in the GS Lev system, i can't go back to regular stereo. can't even listen to my old CDs anymore, cuz it's only simulated surround; now you can have true 5-channel discrete surround sound (i bought a bunch of DTS discs). [if any of you have the Lev and have not listened to an authentic 5.1 surround sound source yet, get ready to be blown away. the Lev is even better than my home Bose surround system, becuz you're in an enclosed sound 'cabin' and the channels are sizzlingly distinct. i'm not talking DVD movies either...5.1 music. amazon.com has a lame selection but Best Buy has an entire rack of DTS audio discs.]

ok, so i had planned to upgrade next to one of the satellite systems...but if they're only broadcasting in 2-channel, i ain't gonna spend the buck$. anybody know the answer?

I believe SIRIUS broadcasts in Dolby Surround. They revealed that at the CES show in 2004. XM broadcasts in 2 channel stereo.

NEW YORK, NY USA 01/08/2003

New Feature Won't Require Any Additional Hardware for Consumers

LAS VEGAS and NEW YORK, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CES -- SIRIUS
Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI), known for delivering the very best in
commercial-free music and premium sports programming to cars and homes across
the country, today demonstrated the first surround sound capabilities for
satellite radio with a matrix surround signal over one of SIRIUS' music
streams.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19991118/NYTH125 )
SIRIUS has chosen to adopt the Dolby Pro Logic II as the standard for
encoding. The surround sound feature is compatible with virtually all
surround sound audio systems already on the market for both the home and the
car, including such names as Logic 7(TM), Circle Surround(TM), Dolby Pro Logic
I & II(TM), DTS(TM) and more.
SIRIUS chose Dolby Pro Logic II because it utilizes very small numbers of
bits to provide a higher-degree of channel separation. More importantly, it
allows SIRIUS surround sound broadcasts to be backwards compatible with more
than 100 million existing home A/V receivers, as well as surround sound
systems in most automobiles. Dolby is expected to work with SIRIUS to
optimize the encoding system for Dolby surround sound.
"SIRIUS subscribers have asked for multi-channel surround sound and we are
thrilled to be the first satellite radio provider to offer this capability,"
said Larry Pesce, Senior Vice President Product Development and Strategic
Planning, SIRIUS. "As a premium service, we will continue to introduce
capabilities and services that enrich the SIRIUS entertainment experience, at
no additional cost to our subscribers."
As most content on today's CDS was not recorded in multi-channel format,
SIRIUS has begun updating its library to include multi-channel DVD Audio discs
and SACD discs. The first multi-channel recordings and broadcasts will be of
SIRIUS Sessions, SIRIUS' daily live concert series. SIRIUS will broadcast
surround sound across all streams where multi-channel can be enjoyed,
beginning with the CES 2004 demonstration.

HAHA I wish...If so I would have every color 06 GS430 parked at my mansion. Just a large investor in both companies, and of course a Lexus owner. I cant wait for SIRIUS to launch its NavTraffic feature. This will definately be something I will have for my car. There will probably be a software update for the Nav and a new tuner required but to have up to minute Traffic info...especially in LA is a given!

SIRIUS is the better product.....

XM has the "commercial" name.

Do your research and you will realize that its an easy decision. If you dont want to research Im always happy to answer questions.

I don't think it's going to be easy to have Nav traffic implemented into our Gen4 Nav systems. My guess would be later model vehicles from Lexus, not our existing ones. But I'm always hopeful.
