Question Should I sell my RX330 for a GS430

I almost made up my mind to get the 2006 GS430 but I would have to give up my 04 RX330 to finance it.
The GS will cost me 58,500 on road (fully loaded with everything except PCS/dynamic cruise control).
The RX I paid 38,900 and have used it for 20 months now and can easily get around 33,000 for it today (demand for second hand RX is very high and 05 brand new prices have gone up). I would also loose around 2500 on financing charges.
Do you guys think its worth it?

Is it worth it? I don't know; that's a question only you can answer. If it's what you WANT, then by all means do it! Does the $58,500 "on the road" include taxes and tags? Regardless, it's close enough to $60,000, that we're talking $60 Grand for an `06 GS 430 - a LOT of money! At $60K, being "worth it" takes on a whole new context because it's not just motorized transportation at that price, it's personal satisfaction. To put that number into some perspective for a little less than that amount ($58,500), I purchased a new `04 SC430 last May, and prices are holding on the `05s. Everything you said about the RX is correct - prices on used RXs are up and demand is high. What does that suggest? [The RX is the "smart buy" and it's a seller's market.] For sure, you will notice a big difference in mileage, since you're switching to a V-8. Do you own your RX outright, or is it financed? If you own your RX outright, then it might be a better deal financially.

58,500 for the GS430 is before taxes. Its going to end up costing him over 60K after taxes. Around 63K dollars.

Too much money for the worst depreciating asset.loll but then again - the car is nice.

if the gs430 is a car that you want and a car that you want to drive, and you like driving a sport sedan more than a suv, then go for it. that's how you see if it's worth it.

Cars do depreciate but the mental returns are priceless. I say if you can aford it and have all your other financial priorities in order, then go for it.

Do you think there is much difference in mileage between the RX and the GS? i thought the mpgs of both vehicles were somewhat close. I do about 1800 miles a month, but gas prices are relatively cheap here so it should not be that much of an issue

They are two different types of cars and have potentially different uses. If both works for what you need, and you want a GS, I'd say go for the GS.

It is a matter of how soon you want to feel the power of V8.

Ha HA! You had us all going there for a little bit. If you TRUELY do put 1800 miles a MONTH on your current RX, it won't be worth ANYTHING near the figures you are stating. 20 months @ 1,800/miles equates to 36,000 miles on a year old RX. I doubt if you could get the $'s you think out of it. However, If a Lexus "dealer" IS offering that difference, you should jump on it QUICKLY before they realize they've made a mistake in their offer. Lots of people seems to think their used cars are more valuable than they really are. Get the GS if you can...

i have both - and I can say from experience that the GS430 is noticeably better in gas mileage than my RX AWD. GS sticker shows 18/25 and RX is 18/24. i drive about 1800 mi per month also, and i average 18 with the RX and 21 with the GS on the same daily routes. the difference is pronounced if you make long trips - i go to LA for business about once a week, the RX averages 20, but the GS gets more than 25 going 75-85mph on the freeway.

gas here is not cheap; premium is about $2.75/gal. so imo, every little bit helps. if you don't need the RX for utility purposes (don't forget the trunk opening on the new GS is tiny), then the GS is a great choice. i love them both; but i need the RX for my dogs (two chihuahuas, claws = no new leather for them) and costco runs!

If you don't need a truck, don't drive a truck!
