bad radio reception
I've had my GS300 for two weeks and have had it back for service twice for a radio reception problem. The first time they diagnosed that the radio was bad and ordered a replacement. Well, they replace it today and same problem.
The service manager called Lexus and was told that they were aware of the problem but didn't have a fix and didn't know when one would be available but were working on it. So now I have a radio that won't pick up am stations unless it is a strong one and I'm within 35 miles of their tower and then it's static. Weaker stations won't play at all.
I have the Lexus standard radio, ML isn't available at my dealer.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

When I test drove the GS300 I tuned in to my favorite FM station, which is a weak signal. Although I didn't dwell on it, the radio's reception didn't seem to good for this channel, and I was at a location where I didn't think there would be any reception problem. But again, I didn't think too much about it at the time, especially since good or bad weather can significantly affect weak radio stations.
I asked my salesperson where the antenna was on the GS300, and he thought it was in a roof pillar and supplemented by an antenna in the rear window. Can anyone confirm the location of the antenna or antennas?
I've never had great reception from a car that didn't have a standard old-fashion antenna. My outgoing Mercedes E320 has the antenna grid in the rear window and AM reception is bad. FM reception is OK, but not great. This is a well know issue with the W210 E320s. Hopefully this isn't the case with the '06 GS. The reception on our 2000 RX300 is great, and it uses a conventional antenna.

My service advisor told me the antenna was in the back window, didn't mention any in the roof but I don't think the sales and service people are very educated on the new GS yet. My FM channels are OK.
My '99 ES has a back window antenna and the reception is good on FM and AM.

I just switched from an E320 to the '06 GS with ML. All I can say is that the AM reception is fantastic compared to the 320. I live 40 miles west of NYC and I would have to drive half way to the city before I could hear the am stations over the local noise. With the GS I get all the stations the moment I leave the house and without noise.....The FM reception seems to be about the same as most other cars I have including an RX.
