GS - 3rd Gen (2006-2011) Discussion about the 2006+ model GS300, GS350, GS430, GS450H and GS460

Will the long 2006 model year for the GS hurt resale value?

So overall, the GS sold strongly initially as it should have, held pretty well and then productiion decreased as prices increased and the competition came with their new products.
I cannot find 2000 or 2002 figures (Flip, help!).

Thanks for the sales figures 1SICKLEX. It's kind of annoying that they put out sales numbers by calendar year instead of model year but I guess that's more important to them. That means for every calendar year, it's 8 to 9 months (Jan through Aug/Sep) of sales for the current model year and 3 to 4 months for the next model year since the next year's models go on sale around September. For the 2005 calendar year, the sales totals will represent 2 to 3 months (Jan through March) of 2005 GS's and the rest of the year's sales will be 2006.

I think the resale values all work themselves out in the end. I also have the 04 RX330 which I purchased in March 2003. It was weird having the car out so early, but the good news is that if I sold it today, people think that it's only 1yr old (or less) in terms of model-aging, but then the mileage on the car is comparable to the actual 2 year-old car that it is. So the values adequately reflect the car's true "age" after you do mileage adjustments, etc. I think resale values are always good when a new model/generation comes out anyway - in year 3, there will be a ton of people looking for 3rd gen GS's back on the lots as CPOs from lease terminations.

No problem. I like to back up my statements with facts, unlike so many other posters/forums that try to present posts as facts with no proof or history to back them up

If you buy a Lexus from a non-Lexus dealership, you will likely to pay a lower price than a Lexus dealership regardless the year of the Lexus. The Lexus dealerships in my area were selling GS4 with higher mileage and thousands $ more when I find my GS4 at a non-Lexus dealership.

The Lexus dealers were probably charging thousands extra for that Certified Pre-owned classification. Meanwhile you could just get your own extended warranty after buying from it from a non-Lexus dealership.

By the way, the reason for this thread was not because I want to wait and get a used 2006. I'm just debating whether or not to wait until the 2007 model year. My lease on my 2002 GS300 is up on December 1st and I was going to buy it at the end of the lease since it has less than 19K miles and then keep it an extra 9 to 10 months until the 2007 GS is out. I'm hoping the new V6 engine and the hybrid will be out by then. The 4 year bumper to bumper warranty on my GS will also expire on Sept 1st, 2006 right around the time 2007s should come out. I've also heard that you should not buy a car in it's 1st year of production because it takes a year to work out all bugs on the production line. Regardless, I have this distinct feeling I'm not going to be able to wait that long because as soon as I see the new GS in person, I'm sure I'll want one.

"We're pleased that formula has led to another successful year for Lexus."

In addition to record-breaking year-end sales, Lexus reported a best-ever month with 22,203 vehicles sold, surpassing the previous best-ever mark set in August 2000. The Lexus RX 300 mid-size SUV continues to be the brand's top-selling vehicle with 77,426 units sold.

Lexus Sets New All-time Sales Record and Becomes Best-Selling Luxury Brand

LEX-05-01

01/03/2001 Torrance, CA

Jan. 3, 2001 – Torrance, CA - Amid record low temperatures across the country, Lexus heated up the sales thermometer to a sizzling 206,037 units for the year 2000, an all-time sales record for the luxury automaker. Lexus’ record-setting sales represents an increase of 10.8 percent from 1999. In a very competitive and tight market, Lexus became the top-selling luxury brand edging out Mercedes-Benz by a mere 423 units.

“Since our launch in 1989, the Lexus philosophy has been to engineer the highest quality vehicles, provide unparalleled customer service and link the two with an outstanding dealer network,” commented Denny Clements, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “We remain committed to this ethic and although we didn’t set out to be No. 1 in sales, we’re thrilled to see our efforts propel us to the top spot in the luxury market.”

With the introduction of the LS 430 premium luxury sedan and the IS 300 compact sport sedan, Lexus saw passenger car sales climb to 101,441, a 4.9 percent increase over 1999. Lexus’ sport utility sales also remained strong with sales of 104,596 units, up 17.2 percent from 1999. The RX 300 remained the top-selling Lexus vehicle with 2000 sales of 89,864, an increase of 22.3 from the previous year.

Lexus also posted the best-ever December in its 11-year history with sales of 21,168 units, a 30.5 percent increase over December 1999. December sales of the RX 300 reached a new best-ever month at 9,248 units, a 22.8 percent increase over December 1999.

Lexus pre-owned business also experienced a record-setting year. Calendar year-to-date pre-owned sales of 48,157 represents an increase of 4.0 percent over 1999. Lexus pre-owned sales for December marked a best-ever month in the company’s history with 4,666 units sold, up 23 percent from the previous December.

Toyota Sets Sales Record For Sixth Year In A Row

I bought the 2006GS because I like the car and I like the brand. I intend to keep it for several years. If the resell value in 5 years will be 3k plus or minus is meaningless. You know for sure that it will higher than the Cadillac.
All the cars lose their values as an investment is one of the worst ones. Cars are not only for transportation but for enjoyment as well. The enjoyment is the part you are paying for.

I think the opposite is true...unless you buy it right before the 2007 model comes out...then you dont benefit from the 1 1/2 year that the car year is available like someone above mentioned.

Quick Reply: Will the long 2006 model year for the GS hurt resale value?
