Rominl knows where my info is coming from. He can confirm to you it's credible.

They lifted that agreement recently, although many Japanese cars made more than 276 advertised HP while it was still in effect.
Flipside- I have seen you mention that you know some people inside Lexus and I was wondering what they have to say about the trademarked "GS 460" and "GS 350", if there is any chance of seeing such models, and if so, when?
Don't mean to bug you but I was just wondering

Regarding why Lexus would put a 3.0 in the new GS instead of a 3.5 - you guys need to remember this is a world car and a lot of countries tax on engine size and competing models don't have engines bigger than 3.0L. Mercedes, as someone mentioned may begin offering 3.5 soon, but in Europe they also have 2.3 and diesel models which Lexus won't have. So Lexus is actually very limited on engine options. So if the new IS has 2.5 and 3.5, it's not to strange that the GS may initially have 3.0 and 4.3.

I'm sure things are already settled on the engine issue - we just don't know it yet. The thing will be coming off the assembly line in a couple of weeks.

A snipet from freshalloy talking about a review of Fuga 350GT vs Legend in JDM form:
Acceleration:
M35 0-60 6.7sec 0-100 14.7sec beating out the Legend by almost a full second. Guess 300hp and no torque can't handle a heavy car as well as they hoped.
Braking - The magazine claimed the M35 has the shortest 60-0 braking distance ever recorded, besting even the 350Z and exotics. RL was behind, of course.
Road Course - Believe it or not the M35 ran 1'10 in Tsukuba circuit, the RL was in the 1'12 range. The staff praised the RE050A tires on 19" rims and the torquy engine with the M. The only complain was that it's hard to hook up the car on corner exits where the M35 left long trails of black rubber mark from the inside tire. (Eh? No LSD!?) The RL was very composed and handled corners very well, the SH-AWD allows the RL to carve through corners with ease and hook up immediately at corner exits. Still...... losing by 2 seconds is a pretty big deal.
I wonder how a GS300 would fare against these two.

Not surprising. As much as Acura would like us to believe the RL is some BMW beater, its not. Its really like the TL, a gadget filled car with a lil more prestige than owning a Honda. It does sound like the SHAWD makes life easier in corners for rookies. The new M is clearly trying to extend on the G35s success as being a sports sedan. WHY THE HELL they didn't offer a manual is BEYOND ME.

It genuinely seems as though the 06 GS will have a 350 designated model...

A model stands next to Toyota's new sedan, the "Lexus GS 350" during a news conference in Tokyo, capital of Japan Dec. 21, 2004. The two new sedans, including the "Lexus GS 350" and "Lexus GS 430", will be sold in Aug. 2005.
Unveiling a prototype of the first Lexus car under a new design concept, the GS 430 and GS 350 sedan, Toyota said it aimed to sell 50,000 to 60,000 Lexus cars annually in Japan for the time being.

note how it says "Aug 2005". This would probably mean that it may well be released as the GS300, until later in other parts of the world, but would be realeased immediately as the GS350 in August in Japan. Just my thoughts...
