I know there's a sticky for the new GS, but has anyone started putting away cash for the new '06 GS? I'm thinking about opening up a new checking and start saving... Anyone else?

Nope. The car stylings is not compelling enough. It is a nice car on paper but it is not nice enough for me to get excited about. When the hybrid becomes available, I will revisit the issue. Even then, I want to wait a few years more and let the hybrid on the car mature a bit. I will then look at the GS and whatever else is available at that time.

With this schedule, I'm still looking at 4-6 years from now. This just means, I'll be modding the current car for at least another year or two.

Not yet. I think it looks like a maxima. I'll need to see the car in person first, sit inside, and test drive it. Also if you want to buy a new car when its first released expect to pay over sticker price.

Yep.

I read a few reviews and other online forums and many seem to like the new design. I don't think Lexus will have problems selling the new design. The design fits in well with the wave of other manufacturer's newer cars' body line. After looking at the new car pics for awhile, the Gen2 GS does look a little dated. It does not change the fact that I still like looking at the "dated" Gen 2. I just will "miss" the updated technology in the new version, though.

The design is not bad enough for me to rule out ever buying it, but it does not have me all giddy right now either.

So far I agree with everyone else here up to this point. I think someone a long time ago did put a deposit already!

I was kinda thinking about it but I know if I parted with the 02 I would miss it to much so until I could afford to have both I will wait. A Lso I saw this in the RX forum it says the GS350 and the GS460 are trademarked so that would def make me wait! http://www.auto-report.net/index.html?tm200402.html

Default A Gen 1 buyer thinking about it

We've had our Gen 1 for 10 years now and it's been perfect, I love this car but it is 10 year's old and technology changes. After driving our 1966 Toyota Corona for 20 years we vowed to not keep a car more than 10 years and have been waiting for the Gen 3. For some reason the styling strikes me to be closer to the Gen 1 than an evolotuion of the Gen 2 but you can't always tell from pics. I could see going for it toward the end of 2005.

I will certainly not save up for it.

As a matter of fact, my current GS will be around for a very long time unless something catastrophic happens to it and it gets totalled.

My next car will definitely be a 2 door sports car from Deutchland! I am middle aged right now and about to go through a mid life crisis!

I love the 2nd gen GS styling; this 3rd gen 06 styling really doesn’t do anything for me, at least in the pictures. I was really looking forward to the new styling, and I am now disappointed.

Ill will be keeping my 98 until it needs a big repair or becomes unreliable. 2007-8?

IMO the GS will be the hottest new sedan next year. It looks much better than any of its competiton - Audi A6, 5 Series, E-Class, Caddy STS, Acura RL, M45. I saw all these cars in person. The new GS is not photogenic, but it is so smooth and sleek in real life, like nothing else on the road.

The only thing that may hold it back from the top are the HP#s. When will Lexus learn??? To me its just ridiculous that Lexus is going to market their V8 with 300hp the same figure it was 8 YEARS AGO. Makes ZERO sense to me. If this car came with 330-350hp, it would be the KING of this class.

Def time to start saving for the new GS plus can't forget to put away a little $$$$ for the mods as well.

Default '06 Date?

What is the expected date the '06 will start showing up at the dealers? I can't seem to find the exact due date.... And do we know if there will be substantial price increases from the '05? If so, can somebody elaborate for me?

I'm considering the usual car suspects: Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc.. and am trying to wait until 2005 or 2006 to jump onboard.

Thanks for your posts!

are you kidding me? I haven't even finished with my 2nd gen GS... how am I going to be able to pick up another GS and start modding that one.... besides i'd have to wait for 2007 to pick up the 2nd year cars so they would be able to fix any minor problems.
