It's a bit off-topic from this, so I thought I'd start a new thread here, on the visual comparison of the '04 Maxima vs. '06 GS design:

Feel free to make any comments on how they compare.

Before I said that I like the new GS better, but now that I think of it, I think the old GS would look better (with some modifications). Like a body kit, wheels, right suspension set up, etc. Now that would be a different story. Well stock I still lean towards the new GS, but with some modifications things start to turn around.

The new one has a fat rear-end, it needs to go on Slimfast. The roofline drops down to the end of the car, there's no boot/trunk top. It's more like a hatch-back. Also the front of the car hasn't enough character, it could be a Mazda. A bodykit will certainly enhance it, but I would have preferred something more individual and distictive with a hint of aggression and understated power/prestige in the design.

I would chose the 2006 if I were buying a GS for the first time just to get all the new tech improvements but I'm not going to give up my currents GS and another 20-25k to upgrade

To see Maxima and the GS in person you will not think they look alike.

My preditiction: When the GS is released and at dealerships, many who think the resemblence is uncanny will change their tune.

IMO the most important angle of a car is the dead-on side profile. I would have used these pics for this thread

From this view the 04 GS looks way better. I think the 04 GS looks great from any angle. I will wait until I see the 06 in person before I judge and honestly I will probably buy an 07 anyway. Still it is a step down in design.

That last side shot of the new GS reminds me of the M Coupe with the slope back and long hood. Very nice and very sport.

2ND Generation is good, but the 3rd depending on the power could take its place respectable!!

I think the 2006 will grow on many of us. In my opinion, it looks better than the new 5series. However, I wouldn't trade my 2nd generation GS for it, but I wouldn't mind owning both either.

yea i suppose we think that the 2nd gen is better than the third since most of us own the 2nd gen right now..but the 1st gen owners probably felt the same way when the 2nd gen came out..lol..well i guess the 3rd gen just have to come out

I would love to see the 3rd Generation GS have some VIP Styling on it. I think that will turn things around a great deal. Give the Third Generation GS a chance.

Default REAR LEGROOM (AGAIN)

I'll say it again. Look at the pictures above. The one of the 2006 looks like the car was not exactly perpendicular to the camera, for the front tire looks larger than the read-- car looks like front of car is rotated in frotnt of rear. Regardless, look at the distance on bottom of rear door of 2006 compared to previous generation. Looks smaller, huh? www.autospies.com just posted new pics with someone FINALLY shootin a sliver of the back seat from front seat-- but front seat looks like it is pushed pay forward becauser if you look at other pics in series youwill see what I mean. In summary, I do not know where the extra 2 inches of wheelbase is going? Because to my eye the rear legroom looks SMALLER !!!!-- If this pans out then I will be pissed, quite a bit-- considering a little more legroom was key for me and every dealer I"ve spoken to agrees and they all want a little more back there. anyway has anyone actually seen rear leg room, gotten specs or have thoughs on this? thanks.
also, is it fair to estimate rear legroom byt he distance from botttom of rear door to pillar. thanks.

Default 2nd GS

I like the 2ng gen GS more since I have one and thats what you can buy at the Lexus Dealer. But I must say that the 3rd gen looks more like it came from the 1st gen GS then from the 2nd gen. Ah the old middle child curse. Still at least Lexus took some cues from Junction Produce and made the bottom of the taillights clear. I reallylike the quad rear lights our GSs more then the tails on the 3rd gen.

Oh well,
Looks like I can save a bunch of money and call SRT !!!
