Car Vibration
I just put on new 18"s. I am having some serious steering vibration between 55-65. Below and above that its fine. I have searched the forums and found several answers. The rims i got are Manaray VR-5s. What should i check first,---
If they have centering rings?
If car is balanced?
If car is aligned?
What else?

This is the EXACT same problem I'm having. If you have a 98~99, then you may want to try getting your pretensioner tightened. I have not tried this yet because the lexus dealer claims it is not a TSB.

I took my car to westbury Toyota where my boy works and it took us like 2 hour to fix the problem but we finally got it they got that hunter machine there not your typical balancing machine the machine tell you how mach the tire with the rim, it tells you if the tire is bad or a rim is bend ect...if anybody in long island wants to get this fix let me know

Try checking rim to see if it is bent, then Hunter machine, balance and align all rims then if that does not work tighten the steering pretensioner. I had exact same problem with my stock 17" I tried to balance and align but that did not help not with Hunter though. I got 16" stock rims and now its gone. Vibration was driving me crazy so I got rid of the 17" rims. Tell me what happens Im thinking of trying another set of chrome 17" with new tires.

1) Centering rings are critical to a good balance if your rims aren't hub-centric.
2) Good balancing is the key, best is on car balance, if not, get hunter 9700 machine.
3) Alignment is important too.
4) Finally, correct inflation is important too.
I've heard some say the steering pre-tensioner could be a factor on 98-99 GS's (they apparently changed the steering from 2000 on), but I believe the above 4 factors are likely to be bigger.

**UPDATE**
I took my car to lexus and they performed some type of "special" balancing i think where they factor other variables into the balancing wheels like road force or something. Anyways it seems to work because the car drives with practically no vibration. They said i had some bents in my rims also. It has been 2 weeks now and the car drives great!!!!
