I just visited my local metal supplier today to find out what I paid for the material I bought 2 years ago ( www.metalsupermarkets.com ).

The rectangular tube stock was $9 a foot and I needed 3 feet. I checked the same material in Stainless Steel and was quoted $28 a foot.

The Delrin cost me about $15, available at Tap Plastics ( www.tapplastics.com ).
Titanium would make for some great sparks at night.

Welding at a local muffler shop should cost around $20 - $40.

Having an air dam with NO scratches & scrapes on the bottom: Priceless

I would definitely be interested in getting a set as well....even though I don't have a body kit as of yet. But it's a really good idea.

I bought 3 feet, but my finished lengths are less than 2.

Next month, I'll be working on a skid plate for another GS with a different kit. We'll see how the set up will differ.

You'll see a post when it's done.

just wondering if you've thought of using any other materials? i need to do a similar setup for my front bumper and was thinking of using carbon fiber & kevlar cloth.

Sounds like your trying to save weight ? ?

That's basically why I drilled the holes in the steel. I'm not sure how you would attach it to the frame in order to be as solid as my welded steel construction.

If your serious about saving weight and have the resources to make it in CF, go for it. Otherwise, it's a lot of work just to save a few lbs.

Default BRING THIS THREAD BACK ALIVE!

Hey guys. Any update on this? RMM, how's the installation on the other GS?

I'll soon be installing my new bumper. But hey my old front lip scratched alot. I don't want my bumper to break after a few days of scraping.

What thickness Delrin did you guys use?

We used 1/2 inch thick. If you go thinner it will wear down too fast.

No progress at this point because of :

1. Nor Cal meet
2. Nor Cal DVD video production
3. Too many other activities, Karting, Drags, Rominl's wedding, etc.
4. Secret project to be revealed in a month or so.

It will happen eventually, but the moon, earth and sun have not aligned properly to allow it to happen.
