Default master won't work after battery died

Hi all:

First of all thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Basically my battery died and since I had the car stored for the winter I didn't realise it until weeks after the fact.

So I dutifully replaced the battery with a new one but now my Master remote key doesn't function (opening the door locks, trunk, and the panic button). It continues to open locks manually and start the car but doesn't do any of the remote functions. What do I have to do to get the remote functions to work again?

Many thanks for your insights and assistance.

Paul

Perhaps your keyless / remote battery is dead. Easy fix though.

I disconnect my battery cable about once a month, and never have any problems.

Post thanks a lot! :-)

Many thanks Dex. I think you're right. After reading your post, I checked the little red light that's supposed to go off when hitting the remote functions, it didn't, so it's probably a dead battery. I bought a new master (yet to be programmed) and the red light goes off nicely on that one cuz there's a new battery in that one.

Silly me I should've realised this was the case............

And I know this probably is somewhere on the forum so I'm taking a risk of getting flambe'd but I'm a bit lazy and was wondering if someone could do me a big favour and give me either a url or an attachment on how to program a new master key (I have the original one so no problemo there). I got this new master from the dealer which set me back around CDN$300 and then they want me to pay an hour's labour plus taxes just to program it?

Well no whouay hossay sez me!!!

Again, if someone can help, it'd be much appreciated.

BTW, I really appreciate this resource. Didn't know such a forum existed and I'll try to contribute once in a while if I have something worthwhile to say.

Take care in the meantime,

Paul

Default thanks i'm almost there

Hey guys:

Many thanks for the thread and sorry for my laziness in not searching for the thread in the first place. I have one last problem that the thread didn't really help me out with.

I've now been able to program the new key to start the car and lock/unlock the doors. But now it can't open the trunk for some reason.

Is there a separate procedure to program the trunk lock to recognise the key? I've tried playing with the locking and unlocking of the trunk from inside and that doesn't seem to help.

Thanks again for all the great help here,

Paul

Default i don't think so..........

Hey skperformance:

No I don't think I have anything in the glove box like that. I looked and nothing there but the CD changer!

I guess I might break down and ask a dealer what might be going on. But not for a while, every time I go there it costs me and I can do without that for the time being.

Later.........
