Default 99 GS400 master key?

I just bought my wife a '99 GS400. It only came with one key and that one was busted pretty bad. They tried to tape/glue the remote back together on the key and that just ended in a horrible mess. So I am looking at either getting a new key or possibly upgrading her to the Advanced Keys ak-105b keyless entry and push button ignition setup.

My question is this, how can I tell if I have the master key so that I can even attempt to get more keys made? And if I don't could I still do the advanced keys deal and just bypass having to do the dealer key stuff?

You can buy just the housing and swap your internals into a new shell and cut a new key so you have a spare. I know for my local locksmith does the laser cut keys for Lexus vehicles for $40 but check around because a lot of places might not be able to cut these keys. Also your mater key will have all of the key-less features on it (alarm, trunk release, lock and unlock). The valet key does not open the trunk or glove box when its locked.

Thanks for that. It is looking like the keys would be an easier/cheaper way than doing the Advanced Keys route. I was mostly worried about how like when you put the key in the ignition the steering wheel moves and such, how I would make that work with the ak-105b system.

I also found the writeup on how to add keys to the system with just the existing master key and doing the lock/unlock/brake/gas dance. I should be able to add keys to the system with that correct? Of course that is figuring that there are enough open slots available. Being that the key I received with the car is broken beyond repair I would like to make 2 new keys and then put this one in the safe just in case I need to remake some keys. I need to do the same thing to my '01 IS300 also.

How about adding additional keyless remotes? The one in the existing key is foobar'd bad and does not work. Do I need it to work to add additional ones?
