Default P1300 code on 2001 GS300

Hi everyone,

In need of help/suggestions...my car suddenly shut down on mea few weeks ago after the check engine, vsc and vsc off lights came on. After sitting for about 15mins, the car started and I was able to make it to a shop. I was told my car showed a P1300 code which means I needed an ignition igniter. Before spending $600 on a part that I can only get from the dealership, I want to make sure that it's the igniter and not the coil pack or coil connectors. I've been researching this issue online and I've seen that other issues can cause this code, not just the actual igniter. It has 184k miles and just had a valve cover gasket and variable valve selenoid put on about 5 months ago but other than that, no major issues. If the car starts, it won't stay on for more than a few seconds. I'm at a lost and really need some advice as to how I can determine if it's the igniter and not something else. Thanks CL!

I replied to your other thread where you asked me. Basically it is not usually the igniter. Almost always a bad coil pack or wire, You can buy the igniter on ebay for around $200 if it is that, but I doubt it. The P1300 code immediately shuts gas flow off to the engine and this is why it stalls out. I unhooked the harness to the igniter when this happened and cleaned it. After that the car started right up and got me home. But I would bet money your coil packs or wires are bad. Especially with that mileage

If it is igniter, I would go used in a heartbeat on it. They rarely fail

Thank you so much for responding. This definitely gives me a starting point. And forgive me if this sounds silly, but when you say wires, are you talking about the coil connectors? I'm just trying to figure out the least expensive starting point. Could it just be 1 of the 3 coils that are bad? Is there anyway to test them to find out?

There are 3 coil paks and 3 wires for the 6 spark plugs.
