To be honest, I'd say neither and go with the Toyota OEM double din kit from either Carson Toyota or Elite Autostyle.

For you to say neither have you personally installed both and they were a bad fit? I installed metra after getting tired of constantly waiting for a shipment of oem DD to come in. Color match is MUCH better than the older versions and the fit is flush

Well... the color match is exact and fitment is perfect on the OEM part. But when I sit barely over a foot away from it the color difference on that one piece compared to the rest of the area would annoy me especially if I knew there was something out there that was a perfect match. Also, I'm patient and waiting a month didn't bother me.

But the OP's original question was which is a better fit, not color match. That's why I asked have you installed both and none was a good fit for you.

I will be modifying the bezel which will require a repaint, so colour match doesn't matter.

If that's the case, it doesn't matter then.

How's that? The fit won't change from paint.

The Metra kit fits great with no issues to install. Any novice can do it and look like a pro

I installed the Metra about a year ago and didn't care for it at all. My concern was the curved face didn't allow my Sony to sit flush. I changed it to this kit:
