Unhappy Bye Bye GS400!

Hey fellow second gen GS owners and fellow Club Lexus members,

So my 1998 GS400 was hit while it was parked by a U-Haul truck... Being an old car with almost 300km, insurance decided to write it off. They gave me a more than fair payout for the car, so can't really complain about that.

Of course, I want to get another Lexus cause we all know they are the best cars in terms of reliability ... I'm in a little dilemma and thought to reach out to get some feedback. I'm looking into a couple different options...

2006 GS300 AWD... Only 2006 because the 2007 350 AWD's are still pricey here in Canada
2006 Lexus GS430

They range from about $9,000 to $12,000 (CDN) with approximately 150km (93k miles) to 200k (125k miles). I've done a lot of research and hear some mixed reviews about the third gen GS, and especially the 2006 models since it's the first year it was released.

I haven't taken one for a test drive, but it seems the interior isn't as plush as the second gen's. It looks like Lexus kinda cheaped out on some of the materials, and what's with all the recalls!

OR

2001-2003 LS430... The 2004 and up are still a little too much

They range about $8,000 to $9,000 (CDN) with approximately the same mileage 150km (93k miles) to 200km (125k miles). Likewise, I've done a lot of research on these cars and can't really find anything bad about them lol. Nothing but great reviews in terms of finish and reliability.

They do look a little 'dated' compared to the 3rd gen GS but far more luxurious. What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards the LS430 because of the reliability factor and it's a little cheaper which means more spending money for some mods and maintenance.

Any feedback would be appreciated! I posted this in the second gen forum because I figured I would get some biased opinions in the 3rd gen or LS forum lol.

Man, that doesn't look bad at all! In the meantime, while you're shopping for your new ride, I'd try to buy that joker back from your insurance company, and keep her as 'the beater'

I ave no input on your options... just chiming in on the Gen 2

LS430 or GS430. There was a black GS430 2006 for like $11k, low miles, fully loaded that I was eyeing, then I looked at the tax that I would have to pay to beig it into the US. Even with the low price and exchange rate, still would have been a fortune

That looks fixable.

But if you are buying a replacement, I would lean towards the big LS. The 3GS styling looks good on the front but the back side profile doesn't work for me. Not that the LS didn't copy some styling cues from MB E and S class. But the LS really has true luxury inside and of course has that sweet V8.

Not totaled at all! Mine was rear ended and had some frame damage so it was totaled. I ended up getting another 00 GS400, but I was entertaining the LS430 like you did love everything about it except the rear end. Can't get away from the V8 once you had it
